We asked if we could sit outside the back door, so we sat there, in beanbag chairs, watching the grape harvest before our eyes, while we sampled some excellent Slovenian wines. Does life get better than this?

We happened upon Dobrovo during a road trip through Slovenia. I hope to make it back here one day because it's a beautiful area full of quaint villages and vineyards, rolling hills, castles and delicious new wines to discover. We happened to be here in August when many vineyards were closed for tastings but we found Vinoteka Brda and it was open. They had a great collection of local wines and a choice of different tasting menus. We were able to tailor our own tasting, and the waiter was knowledgeable, laid back and helpful. He brought us four wines to taste- a Rebula, an unfiltered Pinot grigio, an unfiltered Chardonnay and the last as well as the best, a red blend by Sosolic, called virus 3. This was a blend of merlot, cabernet and the local grape, refosk. It was amazing! The prices if the bottles were very reasonable starting around 7 Euros. A few complimentary snacks were provided as well. I highly recommend a visit here if you are passing through or have an interest in learning more about Slovenian wines.

Thiis regional wine bar is far the biggest wine selection of regional wines from all slovenia - and also in Italy we didn t find that big options.Then you have to try this brda salamiand goat chesse with different variation; or brda excellent ( a little expensive ) olive oil, or brda honey or gelatin from grapes and herbs. mmmmmm.

La Vinoteka Brda e' situata nel castello rinnascimentale di Dobrovo e ti offre una splendida accoglienza, ottimi vini, un ambiente piacevole.

Si entra attraversando il portone del castello ed attraversato il cortile si scende in enoteca. Il locale è molto bello, con il soffitto a volta e le pietre a faccia vista. Possibilità di degustare i vini dei produttori del Collio Sloveno facendosi guidare dal personale molto preparato. Ottimo rapporto/qualità prezzo, centinaia di etichette disponibili.

Delizioso pomeriggio nell'enoteca Brda che si trova, al piano sotterraneo, dentro il cortile del castello di Dobrovo. Il catalogo è immenso quindi abbiamo chiesto alla proprietaria qualche consiglio. Con tanta passione ci ha condotto in una degustazione di 6 rossi locali prima a stomaco vuoto e poi offrendoci anche degli stuzzichini per poter meglio comprendere le differenze. Veramente molto interessante e molto rilassante. La proprietaria parla un italiano perfetto e il locale-cantina è veramente molto suggestivo. Se siete in zona vale sicuramente la pena fare una sosta.

Schon von Weitem erblickt der Besucher das befestigte weiße Schloss mit seinen drei Geschossen und den markanten Türmen aus der Renaissance (Anfang 17. Jh.) auf einem Hübel oberhalb des Dorfes Dobrovo. Stolze Besitzer dieses Anwesens waren die Familien Colloredo, Catterini-Erzberg und de Baguer. Jetzt sind im Erdgeschoß ein bekanntes Restaurant, im Obergeschoss eine Sammlung von 134 Grafiken des bekannten einheimischen Malers Zoran Mušič und im Keller die „Vinoteka Brda“ untergebracht.Weinfreunde zieht es natürlich in die Vinothek, zu der man über eine Treppe vom Vorplatz hinuntersteigt. Unten empfangen den Besucher neu renovierte Räume mit gemütlichen Tischen und Sesseln. In den Vitrinen bzw. Regalen lagern die Schätze – Rot- und Weißweine aus dem Brda, die hier auf ca. 2.000 ha Rebfläche wunderbar gedeihen. Auf der Weinkarte stehen fast 300 Weine von 49 Produzenten (die Winzer sind Eigentümer der Vinothek), die man hier zum Ab-Hof-Preis auch kaufen kann. Zum Verkosten werden Pršut, Salami, Käse und auch warme Gerichte (für angemeldete Gruppen) serviert. Der Sommelier und Manager der Vinothek, Toni Gomišček, ist der beste Kenner dieser Weine, auf seine Empfehlungen darf man sich verlassen. Er erzählte uns, dass hinter jedem Winzer ein persönliches Schicksal, eine eigene Geschichte steckt. So sagte er, dass sich der Markt innerhalb der letzten 100 Jahre dreimal verändert hat – angefangen vom Ende der Donaumonarchie, wo die wichtigsten österreichischen Absatzmärkte verloren gingen, bis zur Ära „Jugoslawien“ mit der extremen Regulierung der Anbauflächen und der Notwendigkeit, die Trauben an Genossenschaften zu liefern, bis zur Selbständigkeit Sloweniens und dem Erwachen einer neuen Weinbaukultur, in der Qualität, Individualität und Kreativität wieder etwas zählen. Wir kosteten uns durch mehrere Weingüter – ein Wein besser als der andere. Besonders angetan waren wir bei den Weißweinen vom „Rebula Riserva 2006“ von Edi Simčič, vom “Sauvigonnasse” (so heißt jetzt der Tocai) von Sirk und vom “Sivi Pinot” von Prinčič. Bei den Roten waren wir begeistert vom Merlot von Movia, vom “Cabernet Sauvignon Amfora” von Erzetič und vom “Duet” von Edi Simčič (toller Cuvee aus Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc).Zum Abschied nahmen wir noch einige Flaschen als Souvenir mit. Wir waren uns nach der Verkostung einig – hier im Brda-Gebiet sind noch viele Entdeckungen möglich – kleine Dörfer mit ihren beherrschenden Kirchen auf den Hügeln, Winzer, Öl- und Schinkenerzeuger, Restaurants, urige Bauernhöfe mit Ferienwohnungen etc. Nächstes Mal kommen wir nicht nur auf einen Tagesausflug, wir werden uns im “Agriturismo Belica” in Medana einquartieren und die Umgebung erkunden und entdecken. Die Vinoteka Brda ist täglich von 11.30 h bis 21.00 h geöffnet, Dienstag ist geschlossen.
