Excellently signed path to an incredible example of humanity at its best. Amazing effort to save life in impossible conditions. The reconstruction of the site after its destruction in a recent flood is also an act of commitment to preserving the memory of these special people

Franja Partisan Hospital was functioning during the last 2 years of the 2nd World War in the hidden gorge of Pasica in Dolenji Novaki near Cerkno. A beautiful hidden place; 500 meters walking up to reach it from parking place, surrounded with perfect explained boards along the trail. You still can see, that at that time it was a difficultly accessible gorge that leads to the hospital provided safe shelter from the invaders. Franja was operating 18 months and treated 578 injured people (78 died here). It was one of the 120 Partisan hospitals. The path to the hospital is magnificent and it is worth visiting and remains an essential memory of wartime events and above all humanity and comradeship against nazis & fascists.Franja Partisan Hospital was secretly build in 1943, inside German occupied Europe. It was an extremely dangerous mission, and despite several attempts to find the hospital, it fortunately remained undiscovered and operational until the end of the war.The fact that the hospital was never discovered is to the credit of the Slovene Partisans who chose the secret hospital’s location extremely well. Located deep in the rugged terrain of Pasica Gorge, with a hidden entrance and camouflaged buildings surrounded by trees, it was extremely difficult to find either from land or air.Hospital is called after Dr. Franja Bojc Bidovec, she was the medical doctor, who took care of the wounded partisans and also American pilots, shot down over Yugoslavia.entrance fee is 4 euro and a good leaflet is 5 euro. Opening hours summer till 18.00, winter till 16.00It is a must to see in Slovenia (1 hour visiting time)

Yugoslavia was the only country in Europe that won the battles against Nazi Germany almost by themselves. During world war 2 the Partizan army build many hidden hospitals . Franja is the real memory of that times. A visit there takes you back to these heroic days. You feel the atmosphere, you understand the system, you admire the people who put up this place which treated over 1000 patients and was never discovered by the Nazis.I find it the most moving visit in lovely Slovenia

We were holidaying in the Cerkno region and the Franja Partisan Hospital was suggested as somewhere to visit. I wasn't initially interested because I didn't feel like visiting a museum, but I'm so glad I did. It all starts with a 500 m walk along a river. There are information boards along the way that start giving you a feeling for what the experiences were during that part of the world during WW2. I particularly liked the quotes from the people involved with the hospital. The hospital itself is a collection of buildings in the middle of a gorge with the river in done places rushing directly underneath. While the original buildings were almost completely destroyed in a flood in 2007, the reconstruction still gives you a feel for the place. All in all a most worthwhile visit. Please note that there is quite a walk from the car park.

Not much else to say about it. This used to be one of the few partisan hospitals that remained hidden throughout the war: it is therefore an outstanding monument of human capacity for resilience in extreme conditions. Unfortunately, this outstanding piece of heritage was badly damaged in the floods a few years ago, however, they managed to resotre it to almost pristine condition.

The Franja Partisan Hospital is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth the drive. This was a fully organized and functioning hospital, serving soldiers and partisans. It is located up a narrow gorge, which helps explain how it could be hidden during WWII. The effort to build and supply the hospital, all while keeping it a secret, and carrying wounded soldiers on stretchers up the gorge is just amazing. The path is decent for getting there, although there are some steep areas that have a wooden walkway with cleats to keep it from being slippery. There are about 20 buildings to see, with information in English in each location, which really helps tell the story.

Partizanska Bolnica Franja is a rebuilt partizan hospital. Untill 2007 it was original but due to heavy rain most of the camp was flooded, so they had to rebuilt the camp. Parking is free at the restaurant below. Lucky for us we dont have to walk through the riverbed, there is now a nice pad up to the camp with a lot of information to give you moments of rest. Beleave it or not the particans did this in the dark without a break. All buildings have somthing to tell and you will geat a good fealing about the livestile in this hospital. GREAT
