Postojna caves are a very popular site to visit, we arrived and were a bit daunted by the sheer number of coaches and cars in the carpark, but the layout and the way the tours are organised is very clever and spaced out enough that you aren't in groups of hundreds. You start off in a small train that whizzes you underground through some amazing caverns and tunnels with various rock formations throughout. You then spend the next hour or two walking through with a group of people and a guide explaining the different formations, types of rock, the history and significance of the site. It's a very cool trip and worth the crowds, be sure to take a warm jumper or coat though as it can be very cool inside.I've been through caves in various countries and I have never seen any as impressive as Postojna.

Amazing cave that would not expect to see. I have to admit the entrance fee is quite high but once you are inside you don´t regret a € of it. Amazing halls and decorations - nothing I have ever seen before.

There are many caves in Slovenia, but Postojna caves are the most famous. They are really a nature wonder. It's only a half hour drive from the capital. There is a cool train ride which will take you throug the attraction. You will see many different caves and limestone formations, along with the unique human fish. The temperature stays almost the same throughout the year, so bring your jackets, if you're visiting during the summer.

The caves are breath taking in their vastness and beauty. The tour begins with a train journey taking you deep into the caves where you will see impressive formations in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes. Again, definitely worth a visit as you will probably not have experienced anything like this before.

This was soo cool. The train taking you into the tunnel was neat, but getting into the 5 miles stretch of the caves they have made viewable to the public, unbelievable! Breathtaking, and worth the drive. Beautiful country.

They can have a shorter tour with just the train ride and back. The souvenir shop at the end of the walk sells the same (fewer, if anything) stuff the one on the outside does. Mind you, it's extremely well laid out. There are no steps, and all is ramp. So you don't end up fatigued and panting at the end. The lighting is enough to see by and not look at (except the chandeliers in the wide hall). There was even a floor polisher (one of those R2D2 lookalikes) stashed away in a corner, which gives an idea of how clean it all is. It was our fault we reached just in time for a tour to begin and got mixed up with a wrong language group. Even so, most guides speak English and one was most helpful in filling us up on what we'd missed. The road down the hill to Ljubljana is awesome. It's quite easy to ditch the car for this trip. Most days there's a direct bus service from Ljubljana to the caves. And even when not, the Postojna bus station is about a 15 min walk away.

These caves are absolutely enormous and well worth a look. You don't even have to walk ! A little open train takes you from one area to the other. Worth a look

I recommend this if you are in Slovenia. We took a bus from Ljubljana, which takes less than an hour. The caves are about a 25 minute walk from the bus station. The admission cost was about 23 euros and, while plenty, it was worth it. As others say, there is a train into the caves, and then a walk, all amounting to 1 1/2 hours. The guide was excellent. This place could be a zoo in the summer, but in January, it was very pleasant.

This was a lovely experience, reached by bus just an hour from Ljubjana. The caves go on for miles and are awe inspiring, really worth taking the time out to visit and not an expensive trip. There are plenty of underground walkways opening up into large caverns, plus a great train ride into the tunnels. Admittedly it's quite 'touristy', with crowds of people being herded along, but it's only to be expected that it's going to be a popular place, so you have to put up with that, and can still find it a breathtaking sight.

Caves are huge! Train takes one 2 km into the cave and a guide walKS the rest of re way, providing history and insight. Lots of souvenirs, some very kitchy. Restaurants, both good and fast food type are on site.
