this is a fascinating display, beautifully assembled. I first visited shortly after it opened in 2008 and it is now much more complete. The visitor is equipped with an excellent audio guide with each room given a relevant number. It really looks like the Marie Celeste, as if Seidel had just popped out for a few minutes. Especially the amazing attic with its piles of plates used and unused is exceptionally authentic. If only we had in the UK equally well organised tributes to our photographers.

History of a photographer, Josef Seidel, who archived thru his fotography, life in the Boehmerwald in the late nineteen century, early twentieth century. The house he lived, with help from EU funds, has been restored to it´s glory. The house in itself is a gem, but also it´s history as an atelier of high tech photography. We were attended very well by Mr. Petr, who did his very best to explain some of the background. Apparently approx. 122000 imagines of the past have been saved.Truly remarkabe indeed.

Photography is one my passions and to go through the home of the famous Seidel family was brilliant. Each room was beautiful presented with the original equipment, glass plates old cameras, a black & white film to get you started etc . We were given audio guides which worked a treat and brought the home alive. If you like photography you'll love this museum. It is also part of the CK pass.

Initially I wasn’t planning on visiting this museum, but since I had spare time (and a recommendation from a couple I met there) I decided to go there. It was a pleasant surprise! It was quite small, but the audio guide and the rooms where really interesting. The house and the photography materials are really well preserved and I felt I was time travelling there.I loved to learn the Seidel’s family history, which I never knew existed before CK!The staff was super polite and helpful; it was well worth the visit.Be aware of the opening hours, since they are not open the whole day.

I had a old-time themed picture taken in the Photo athelier Seidl and also went through the museum. It was an authentic experience from times gone by when photography was in its cradle, with old photoaparats, negatives and pictures on display. Not less interesting is the story of the Seidel family and the photographer with his love for the Czech countryside.

On Mondays most of the places in Cesky Krumlov are closed so of course we had to pick Monday to get there. We were wondering about the city when found this little gem. Its a very interesting tiny museum of a Czech photographer Seidel and his son. The very old photographies show how people lived in the city a century ago and you can see how the first cameras and photos revelation work. We really enjoyed the tour around Seidels house. The tour is included in the Krumlov Card which you can also buy directly there in the museum.

Josef Seidel Fotoatelier is a sweet little villa and museum! It is an important part of the culture of Cesky Krumlov because the Seidels documented so much of the area. It is unusual to find a plaice like this where you can even have your portrait done in the original studio wearing original items of clothing. Had we known this in advance, we might have tried to get an appointment. It was a cool, rainy July day and my husband and I were the only people touring at that time. It provided a unique, intimate peek into the family's lifestyle and business. This museum in highly recommended for photographers, lovers of photography and anyone who enjoys history.
