This exhibition, The Magic North, consisting of Finnish and Norwegian art around 1900 was quite interesting comparing national mythology, landscape as a state of mind, artists' portraits and folk culture and traditions from the two countries. The exhibition is a cooperation between the Finnish National Gallery/Ateneum and the National Museum and lasts until the 16th of May 1915.

This is one of the best galleries I have been to, lots of different artists work housed here. Munch, Manet, Monet, Picasso, Dahl, Renoir and many more. It's really easy to find, 50kr entrance fee (approx £4) and well worth a visit.

I absolutely recommend the National Gallery, you can find Munch and other Scandinavian artists, as well as Picasso, Monet, Renoir, Manet, Rodin, Artemisia Gentileschi, Rubens and many others..Loved it! There's a very nice bookshop as well, and lockers for the bags at the entrance, and a small room for a nice children activity!

A small gallery in comparison to other National Galleries, however, had a clear focus on Norwegian artists - perfect for a trip to Oslo!We visited on a Sunday - was pleased to find that this meant free entry!

Wonderful collection of art. Well set out and easy to navigate.Impressionists to Munch just wonderful. The Norwegian art depicting rural life and amazing landscapes were breathtaking. We did the National Gallery the day after the folk museum and was a great rounding off to see the architecture and rural Norwegian life we had seen at the folk museum in paintings

Loved the fact it had so many important pieces, not merely Nordic but French, Spanish and other world master peices. Great to see the works of Munch and to enjoy the wonderful Nordic scenery by the local greats. Its small and you get to see everything.

This is a small museum with predominantly Norwegian artists. It is in a beautiful building. We went specifically to see the Munch paintings and were not disappointed. What I loved about this museum was I had never seen the other works by Munch and they were beautiful. Nice gift shop!

The museum isn't very large - just several floors. But it is pretty comprehensive with a good representation from major Impressionists and Surrealists. And of course, Munch's "The Scream" is housed here - a bit unobtrusively in the corner of a room, which I thought was funny and interesting. They have a good selection of rotating installations of both international and Norwegian artists which is great. And whenever I've gone, while there are a good number of people, it doesn't feel like you are getting herded from room to room, painting to painting, like in other museums. A few other people have mentioned that the gift shop is nice -- it is, they have great books and different mementoes, particularly celebrating various Norwegian artists which is educative. All in all, a great stop in and close to the city center.
