There is nothing I regret for seeing Gole Alcantara. Even if the cold water is said to be cold, it never is cold or as cold as you'd think. The stream of youth, eternity and infinity cleanses the soul of any human life. The sudden depth of the cold stream and the clarity of earth knows ensures you know your place in nature.

A small gorge with some very interesting rock formations and a very cold stream. Worth seeing but once you've seen it that's about all there is for your 10 euros. Another "attraction" created where none existed before. We visited on a quiet day and so the place was quite peaceful. If it was heaving though, most of its appeal will have gone.

Rock formations amazing. Needs better access for disabled people, a little expensive l thought 10 euros, to enter.

Water is approx. 10-12 degrees, but very, very clear. It is so bright, you can drink it! For more information, check out www.parcoalcantara.it

Very interesting location, you have to travel by car or take a tour. The location is a bit run down, could be much better.

Don't enter the gorge through the carpark entrance. Continue on the road for about 300m and there is a free entrance on the left side, it is a set of steps. There is a ticket booth just before the steps and turnstiles but just ignore all of this and go down the steps. Ignore anyone who asks you to pay, because you only need to pay if you take the elevator down. Once down the place is quite nice. Take reef shoes or wear flip flops because the stones are hard on the feet. Its a nice place if you have a few days in the area and want to check out something away from taormina and the beach scene for a couple of hours. The water is cool and refreshing and the rock formations interesting. Easy to reach by car and also by bus from taormina or giardini although timetable is somewhat limited. If you are pressed for time I would not recommend it as a must see.

Cost 11euro each to get in with free parking but you have to pay the fellow for 'car safety'. Look it was interesting and nice to see, water freezing, and there are blokes with whistles everywhere stopping you from going up the gorge and down the gorge so you are really restricted where you can go and the place was packed. Not sure it was worth it really.

With so many other fantastic things to do in Sicily do not bother to waste your time here. The parking was free but the entry to the 'park' cost us €11 each and the only worthwhile thing to see was the gorge itself, which was heaving with people - see photo. There was at least a lift down. All the walks were very shoddy indeed, burnt out, or closed off - the prickly pear walk had graffiti on the few pear plants ... It was all very sad, and the museum was the worst we have ever seen, we decided, with four rooms with printed boards on them. The food was canteen food and we didn't bother with it. Save your money and don't waste your time - go somewhere else!

You need €9 for adults and €5 for children >4 years to go down the lift and have only a 2 minute walk near the flowing water. The area down is closed by ropes and you cannot cross to the other side near the waterfall. The treks on top are not properly maintained and need attention. If you want to enjoy the beauty of this place go down 200 steps and you will find yourself in the nicest part!

Visited the Gorge on a rainy day in Taormina based on lonely planet book, would not recommend the visit here. If you want to see what its like the pictures on here more than do it justice! Expensive entry fee for a 20 minute walk which for most of it you can't even see the gorge, there are about 4 places you can stop and get average views of the river the rest of it is overgrown and poorly kept. There are no boards or guidebooks to explain how the gorge was formed so many people may not even know what they are looking at when they visit, for the money they are making would definitely think they could invest in some history/ process posters. The 'museum' is a joke there are a few things in there used for olive picking but no information on the process, it is basically a shop that they pretend is a museum to get people in. We have taken the hit for you on this, please learn from our experience and do something else with your time!
