Although this temple is in ruins it is still worth seeing. The original scale of the building can still be imagined from the columns (mostly in fragments) and size of the site. Go as part of a visit to the larger temple complex.

I occaisonally visited the west side of the temple park, this was the first. I could feel the Greek Temple ruin!! And visited other ruins. After then I went the east side of the park. You could feel the temples exsited! And also should visit the museo!! You could find the Vast statue of TELAMONE!!

Much of the temple is down, lying in pieces but what remains upright gives the viewer a sense of magnitude of the one of the largest tributes to Zeus in all the world. What is left lying on the ground( there has been pilferage of stones) is almost as impressive. Walk around inside for a full sense of the former grandeur.

They say it was the largest Doric temple ever constructed, although it was never completed and now lies in ruins. Together with other temples it stands in the Valle dei Templi. It is also said that it has the size of one great soccer field (112,7 x 56,3m). We could only see the remains, because there are no standing pillars.

This specific temple you can see in only 10 minutes. It is small, although the two statues, on a model, are huge. Wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring water.

This is a must see attraction in Agrigento. It took us only an hour to go around all the temples. Be certain that it is extremely hot and one should carry plenty of water.

Be sure to visit the museum of archeology before you see the Valley of temples and especially the Temple of Olympian Zeus. There is a model of what this temple would have been if it still existed. And you can see one of the huge statues inside... Just try to imagine the temple with the size of the statue !

A well worth visit and a great day out if you want some history. Took me right back to the Acropolis in Athens. Make sure you're prepared with comfortable shoes and have a bottle of water on you. I was there in Sept, though the weather had cooled off a little it was still very hot. There was only one cafe outside but not inside and it was closed for some unknown reason. However, really interesting site, and a must-see outside of Greece.

Visiting this site reminded me all I learn in school about Greek mythology... So interesting! Make sure you read about the history and the Greek mythology before you visit this site, so it makes sense to you and you appreciate it more!

This one is the biggest at the VOT but you can walk in and around this huge construction undertaken 2 millinea ago. You have to use a lot of your imagination. Am glad we saw this in October when weather was much more cooperative and less tiring.
