The colossal towers were built by Bologna's important families in the 12th...

Well, we didn't put up the first Tower correct. It bands to one side. Ok, let us just build another one. Just leave the other Tower. No worry.

I was told by my host that these towers are locally known as Donkey Towers but he did not know the logic behind it! I visited them in the late evening and saw them only form the ground! They do look imposing as all other buildings i the area are old style and not very tall. I reckon the view from the top would be excellent! The main road in the Centro area is under repair/restoration. The area without traffic appears truly of medieval period!

Not for the fainted hearted. The climb is surreal (I have a certain degree of vertigo). But the view on top of the tower is amazing! :)

Interesting to look at and photograph, lots of building work going on at present. (End February 15) Very buzzy area.

Alot of steps that are very narrow. But when you reach the top it is worth the effort.Beautiful 360 degree view.A nice breeze cooled us off at the top.Take your time and bring a bottle of water.

Didn't know the challenge that awaits us before climbing to the top. The door way is narrow and one person at a time could pass. You have to wait turns for who's coming out and going in. It starts with a spiral staircase, and after 5 rounds you reach a little window where you pay €3 per person, to be able to continue the climb. Here the staircase is no longer spiral but attached to the four walls so it's less nauseating. It is all made of steep narrow wooden steps. 498 steps total.. I counted. It's a leg workout but if you take your time it wouldn't be such a pain. Good thing we came to visit during winter time you wouldn't sweat as much if you were to climb it during summer. Anyway once you reach the top you'll be able to view the entire city. Well until where your eyes could reach! Nice to view Piazza maggiore and San Petron basilica from the top. It's an amazing feeling and definitely worth the climb!

You have heard so much about the Tower of London (I guess) and so much about many other towers... That are almost certainly younger than these in Bologna! Yes, apart from the main tower in the London edifice, everything else is younger, much younger than the two towers (and others around the town). To be honest, I was happy they are not as famous. I could climb the steep stair myself and not be pushed around by nervous tourists (I am the very calm tourist-type) and I could experience it like it must be felt, smelt and flavoured. To be honest, this is one of the best places I have been to. Nearly 100 metres above the city, with a view that mesmerises and a feeling of being one with the past, with the ones who used to work from the tower long before my time.It is a romantic experience for those who seek it, educational for the others. For me, these nearly 500 steps were nothing compared with the view above Bologna.

It is fascinating to go and see them. If you reach them, GO UP! It is a bit tiring, but it is worth the view that you will get.

If visiting Bologna this is a "must visit" attraction. For 3 euros we climbed all 400+ steps up to the top of this tower. What a view!!! Very steep and narrow. Not for those with heart or lung problems!! An amazing feat of building. The view from the top is stunning and you get a real understanding of the layout of the city. After descending go and have a well earned treat!!

If you pass by the towers f the Asinelli and Garisenda you cannot avoid entering and trying to climb it all up. I did it a 20 times may be. It's tough and a bit scary when you make people pass. But at the end you see all Bologna right in front of you. Even San Luca is seen from the towers. At some point inside the tower you see a lable saying that Pisa leaning tower arrives at that high. Impressive!
