I have been hiking in Fanes Valley since I was a kid. Ever since I hiked in many other places in the world: the whole Alps range, the Appennines, Kashmir-Karakoram, Caucasus, central Hindu Kush, and many other mountain places. Alpe di Fanes is to me the mountain's sightseeing closest to perfection. Its shape first of all: it is like a big fortress of dolomite rocks surging up to over 3000m from the lower pastures of Val Marebbe, 1500m lower. Like a big crown the fortress surrounds and shelters a high plateau of 2000m to 2200m high, hidden from all angles: Alpe Fanes. You will discover it when you'll get in through the surrounding passes, Limo and Tadega. It is a big green oval pasture about 5 km long and 2km wide spotted by small lakes (Lago di Limo is the biggest) streams and big limestone white rocks scattered along the green mild slopes. Everything is in proportion and the green of the lawns, the pink and white of the dolomites, the blue of the sky and of the small lakes combine together in a unique way. Alpe Fanes is close to Alpe Sennes, which is part of the same Natural Park. Also Alpe Sennes is of stunning beauty as it is lake Braies, at the foot of Croda del Becco. Braies is to me the most beautiful lake of the Dolomites. The whole area is a corner of paradise, where Alpe Fanes is the jewel of the crown.

THis was stunning. At the advice of our hotel (Hotel Corona, St. Vigilio) we hikes up here towards Refugio Fanes. It was stunning. Well marked route. Both for mountain bikers and hikers. That may seem like a distraction but it was fun to watch the cyclists as well. The higher we got, the more majestic the scenery unfolded. Refugios for breaks. Met people who were hiking from town to town. We would do that next time.

Es lohnt sich, von Pederü aus heraufzusteigen und die wunderbare Natur zu genießen. Bei wunderschönem Winterwetter konnten wir eine rasante Schlittenabfahrt genießen!

La passeggiata per arrivare all'Alpe è incantevole e fattibilissima anche con bambini! Magnifico il sentiero, paesaggio fiabesco!

Splendida. Uno dei posti più belli del mondo da me conosciuto. Ci si può anche andare col gatto delle nevi partendo da Pederù. Costa qualcosa. A piedi sono 2 ore e mezza di camminata in un paesaggio d'incanto.

A seconda dell'ora della giornata la luce cambia il colore delle montagne ed in alcun momenti sembrano rosa....intorno la neve ed il silenzio tracce del passaggio di qualche camoscio, le piante coperte dalla neve con i rami pieni sono primordiali sembra di entrare in un sogno di quiete e relax .la discesa a piedi con il solo rumore della neve che scricchiola sotto i propri passi sono ricordi di altri tempi!!

Als je in stilte van de volle pracht van de Dolomieten wilt genieten, niet bang bent om een heel stuk te lopen, enige conditie hebt om in de diepe sneeuw vol te houden dan is de Fanes een echte aanrader.

siamo saliti con gatto delle nevi e abbiamo poi proseguito fino alla malga passando per un lago ghiacciato.. favoloso

Sono salita da Pederu con gatto sino a Fanes e sono riscesa con lo slittino....magico con una neve altissima. Vi consiglio di provare a farla anche a piedi, ci sono riuscita 2 volte

L'alpe di fanes si raggiunge comodamente con un'ora di cammino dall'albergo alpino pederù. Una volta superata la salita iniziale ci si ritrova immersi in una vallata tipo far wes fatta di vette rocciose, un fiume e laghetti al centro e baite lungo le strade che ricordano l'alaska. Arrivati in cima si trovano due rifugi e la partenza di miriadi escursioni. Almeno una volta nella vita bisogna andarci! L'unica pecca....parcheggio a pagamento al pederu!
