While I'm not for sure the "turning bridge" actually works anymore, it's interesting how it was constructed so that it splits in the middle and then one side turns one way and the other side turns the other. It connects the new town to the old town and is just next to the old castle. Interesting to see and photograph.

Really interesting turning bridge connecting the old part of taranto with the modern centre . Advanced for it's time it may be re-structured imminently.

The Ponte Girevole is a good starting point for a visit to Taranto, its a swing bridge and opening times are posted nearby but I have not yet been lucky enough to see it open. From here you can easily walk into the new city with its shops and restaurants, don't miss the museum. There is a very pleasant walk along the Promenade with good views of the Aragonese Castle, the walk takes about an hour and there is a good caffe about half way along if you need a break, the Promenade is protected by two rows of trees so is good at any time of year - my favorite is a sunny Sunday morning in Winter or Spring. Walk in the other direction, past the entrance to the Castle, past the remains of the Doric temple and visit the Cathedral in the oldest part of Taranto. This is also a good place to find excellent seafood restaurants along the waterside.

built to connect the new city to the old one, it opened to let military ships enter the old port. through a channel. Nowadays it works like this on very few occasions. From corso due mari you can see the Aragonese Castle, a military fort, tha goes back to the Spanish domination. You can visit it and it's worth a visit

Such a cool bridge that separates the large from the small sea and the old from the new town...we enjoyed the area around the bridge in the lower old town as there were a ton of ginger cats running around.. ;)

Visit the castle then take a lovely walk along the front. Eat at one of the many seafront restaurants, of course serving fresh fish, cut through the streets to the pedestrian area, visit the department store, Coin, walk down to the Italia cafe and eat one of their gorgeous desserts. A lovely way to spend a day.

quando si apre per il passaggio delle navi e'qualcosa di meraviglioso ed emozionante vedere l'equipaggio salutare i presenti

Posto ideale per passeggiate romantiche. Bisogna fare andata e ritorno dalla città vecchia. Si può ammirare la bellezza del mare di Taranto e le due isolette al largo del Mar Grande.

Si chiama, ufficialmente, Ponte di San Francesco di Paola ed è stato inaugurato alla fine dell'ottocento. Il ponte sovrasta il canale artificiale navigabile fra il Mar Piccolo ed il Mar Grande. Interessante opera ingegneristica.
