This castle is imposing and unique with its octagonal shape sitting alone on a hill. The car park is gratuity only, no set price. Although the entrance fee is small, so is the interest within, rather austere with most of the original features striped out.

The castle is nice, majestic and weird in many ways, by its shape and location.The scenery and point of view from the first floor is probably as good as from the ground level.What got us is paying 10 euros to see empty rooms and a lousy explanatory board (in Italian only, with a single A4 page in English on the side) is a bit much and we regretted afterwards.The kids were picturing already seeing crusaders and armors, but aside for 2 artifacts in the souvenir booth, nothing, NO-THING!So, take a look, stop by but don't bother entering. Waste of time and money.

Worth the drive through lovely Pugliese countryside to see this castle which was never used or even occupied. Amazing octagonal design.

I found this castle a little disappointing compared to British castles such as Bodium.The outside is stunning. Beautiful honey-coloured stone in a wonderful location. But the inside is rather dull with all the rooms being empty and very similar. Nice marble columns though.

It is the only castle you will ever find in the world that has no military purpose at all. The stair cases for example wind the wrong way. Those who know nothing about emporer Friedrich 2, stupor mundi, should not go. It is a monument of a man who became King of Jerusalem without fighting. A renaissance man 500 years before his time. Every body else will marvel at the beauty!

We drove from Bari just to find that the entrance was 10€, which is way too much compared to other places in Italy (like Colliseum or Pompeii).The castle looks pretty from the outside anyways, and the views are pretty. As I read on other reviews, you can't go on the top so definitely not worth paying.

The castle was unlike any other we have seen. It's octagonal shape and rose colored marble columns were unique. The castle's history is unclear, making it all the more mysterious.

Having had our appetite whetted by TV programmes showing extensive views from the top of the castle only to be told when we got to the first floor that the top is closed to tourists was a major disappointment . We had already swallowed at having to pay an additional 5 Euros for a compulsory "art?" display to get into a fascinating castle but the lack of historical exhibits and the barrenness of the place coupled with the inaccessibility of the top floor put a dampened on our eagerly awaited visit. Sorry but not worth 10Euros.

It's interesting because you could find out about history and see the Bari special architecture and also you could see temporary exibitions. I saw a very nice one with photos made by a famous croatian photographer.

si parte daCerignola con la ss.98 dopo aver visitato la cattedrale della citta stupenda si prosegue per canosa attraversando la porta romanica traiana si visita in canosa la cattedrale il museo e per gli amanti le rovine di vecchi tmpi romanici si ritorna sulla 98 verso bari si visita con una piccola deviazione il paese di Minervino murge piccola (matera) ma bellissima si può ammirare tutta la piana del tavoliere della puglia ed il campo sconfinato dove i cartaginesi sconfissero i romani si ritorna sulla 98 dopo pochi km bivio per montegrosso si pranza al Ristorante il borgo , a da antichi sapori sicontinua nella murgia e si prosegue per castel del monte vista da ovest verso est lungo il tratturo antico per il trasferimento degli ovini dall'abruzzo per inbarco per la grecia da molfetta e brindisi si visita Castel del Monte monumento Di Federico 2 per la sua passione della caccia a forma ottagonale con torrioni analoghi La vista è imponente si ammira Margherita di savoia Barletta Andria Corato Molfetta da una altezza di 550 metri si può cenare da Ruccio tannoia aviosuperfice agri turismo Pegaso e in alcune occassioni sorvolare con ultra leggeri il castello.
