We visited in late October 2014 and enjoyed everything about this mid-evil town! It was not very busy at this time of year which we loved! It truely takes you back in time! If you have the time and enjoy walking go outside the city walls and walk the trail round the perimeter. Beautiful views of the country side!

Such a super place to visit! This place is way understated online. You might think you have seen enough towns churches or piazzas but if you haven't been here, you are short hanging yourself! The duomo of Santa Fina is lovely and the headset tour well articulated and a must in order to appreciate! Climb the tower, you must see the rolling hills of Tuscany as they live up to even image in under the Tuscan sun! Great prices on ceramics, much better than the Pont de vecchio venders or central market and they will bargain at least in February they did...high season, maybe not so much. Loved this place! Lunch in the sun in the piazza.

A greta place to stroll and take in the atmosphere of this old town. Full of tourists but still a lovely place to visit. Good restaurants and cafes even the car parks were well managed.

Visit! It´s worth it! One of the loveliest towns in Italy (or at least this area). We land up there by faith and we were amazed by the city. They have apparently the best ice-cream in the world - little ice-cream shop in the center has won many prizes during last years. The best pizza I´ve had (Riccapizza) and the small shop of the world famous photographer Claudio Calvani (next to church), who is really nice and friendly person, his photos are amazing and you can also buy one for yourself with okay price.

Wow! Well preserved, still have that medieval vibe, amazing views from tops of any tower! And there are like 18 around to pick from. Beautiful Sienna is opened up from those towers. It might be spooky at night though but beautiful as well.

San Gimignano is a town worth visiting despite every tourist who going to Tuscany going to this town. Try and get in and out of the town early before the crowds.

12 of us were staying in a Tuscan Villa 5km from San Gimignano. As we drove through the countryside searching for our villa we soon spotted the ancient, walled city of San Gimignano. I held back the tears as the reality of meeting with family & friends sunk in. The towers rise from the walls and salute you as you drive passed. Our first visit into the town was a day I will NEVER forget!! As my title suggests, MAGICAL!! I was stunned that modern civilisation still live in a place where their ancestors have walked through history for 1500 years or more. The buildings have been lovingly restored, the shops run by locals, the food, wine & gelato, all local. We ventured in pretty much everyday. Make sure you treat yourself to a night visit. Spot lights light up the buildings and the violinist busker adds to the magical ambience. I bought a piece from the local potter which hangs with pride in my lounge room here in Australia. A must is a climb up the tallest bell tower to ensure views over all of surrounding Tuscany & beyond, it's glorious & quintessentially ITALY!! Our last night was spent with our friends dining in a beautiful 5 star restaurant just on the outskirts of the wall but with vally views. The food was amazing and they went out of their way to accomodate the 12 of us even though there had been a problem with our booking. Our visit to San Gimignano will be remembered by my husband & me for the rest of our lives and I only hope we will be lucky enough to re-visit!!

We were first here on a mt bike tour in 2007....you know the tour routine; arrived late PM one day, whirlwind tour the next morning and then we were off. And so over the years this was one place we desired to revisit to spend a little quality time. For our Oct 2014 trip to Tuscany we contracted with local tour company Vanarium (vinaio.com) for a Florence --> Pisa/Luca --> at least two days in San Gimignano --> Siena historic/wine/food tour. And the two days in San Gimignano? Just fantastic. It was so nice to be able to relax, stretch, walk, tour at a leisurely pace, and soak in the ambiance of this lovely historic place. When here you are literally living/basking in the history of Italy, and its oh-so easy to get overwhelmed with the grandeur, the architecture, the massive amount of stone, the art, the food, the wine, the views, the ambiance, and yes the gelato too. Recommendations. - tour guide. Yes, get yourself a local guide for a 3-4 hour tour of San Gimignano....and see the town come alive with historical perspective and information. Our guide gave us a new set of eyes for viewing and experiencing the city. Highly recommended, contact Liv @ +39 347 3719596.- gelato. A must do in San Gimignano. Piazza della Cisterna, from the well looking west, across the plaza. Enjoy.- hotel. In 2007 and 2014 we stayed at the Hotel la Cisterna. In '07 we had a killer spacious room with balcony and a million dollar view. In '14 we had a so-so room located down, no make that up, nope gotta go down again stairways with a not so great view. And while this hotel is centrally located, cannot give la Cisterna a two thumbs up recommendation. Hotel restaurant is ok, but not great. - local attractions. Highly recommended the Pietraserena Winery.

We visited with a group on a bus tour. The view over the countryside from the bus park was remarkable. I could not get my head inside the state of mind which created so many towers. It really must have been a very wealthy city.I is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Tuscany. You must visit the Piazza della Cisterna to see the quality of the surrounding houses. Piazza del Duomo is equally exciting as a piece of cityscape.
