I visited this place yesterday with my three grandchildren and my daughter Firstly the lady who sold us tickets was very rude and was raising her eyebrows when I was trying to speak Italian. Secondly we were handed an English version of the spoken guide of the mine but since inside it is pitch dark it is impossible to read. When we mentioned that we did not understand anything as it was all in Italian we were told that it was because Italian people were on the train and when we suggested they might also give an English translation we were told we were rude. The final straw was when the train broke down and failed to collect us An Italian lady arrived in a jeep and in Italian said something which another tourist translated for us. However we were told that to walk back would take 20 minutes so we started to walk This walk took over an hour and on the way I was injured. My grandson tried to waive down the staff in a jeep for assistance but they ignored him This attraction is very, very bad. They will take money from the English but quite obviously do not like them.

The archaeological park at San Silvestro is definitely worthwhile; the visit consists of three parts, 1) a walk through a closed mine dating from the Etruscan era, which was utilized up until the 1970's (they have English audio guides); 2) a train ride ("train" meaning a 2 mph drive) through same mine, showing various techniques used during the Etruscan, Medieval and modern eras, and 3) a walk up to the remains of the hilltop town of San Silvestro that was occupied from the 10th - 13th centuries where residents used the ore to from the mines to make coins for Pisa and Lucca. This is the gem of the park; it's a steep up/down walk to the remains. Visitors walk through the remains; decent signage in English, and just an amazing view of the past. The mine(s) portion is better for kids, so skip those if you don't care for it. But definitely go to San Silvestro itself.

E' come fare un viaggio nel tempo. La miniera è interessante, ma la rocca è affascinante.Ottime le guide. Bellissima passeggiata in mezzo alla natura.Consigliatissimo.

Veramente una bella esperienza ... sopratutto per i bambini , 4 e 9 anni.... gita a piei nella grotta che prosegue con il trenino sempre nella grotta... una bella giornata immersa nell'entroterra toscano...Nella grotta fa freddino quindi essere coperti è meglio, la guida della grotta a piedi non era particolarmente loquace ... alle domande poste le risposte erano asciutte e poco esaustive... metre la guida del trenino ha illustrato molto chiaramente il perchè del trenino, delle grotte e di quello che accadeva nei tempi della costruzione della piccola ferrovia.Le nostre curiosità sono state sviscerate dalla giuda trovata alla rocca di San Silvestro....raggiungibile a piedi dopo il trenino...Il rientro a piedi oppure con il trenino ... scelto nuovamente dai bambini.... perchè non gli capita tutti i giorni un giro in trenino nelle grotte...L'attarazione è convenzionata con altre, sulle quali potete avere sconti informatevi!!!Se siete in vancanza e volete fare una giornata diversa... andateci....

Peccato che il parco fosse chiuso, comunque abbiamo apprezzato la cura generale e la bellezza delle passeggiate.

Forse non tutti sanno che ai piedi della Rocca di San Silvestro è attivo da qualche anno un cantiere di Archeologia Sperimentale che sta portando alla ricostruzione di una casa medievale, esattamente con le stesse tecniche e gli stessi materiali di 1000 anni fa.è un progetto unico in Italia che permette di osservare, nei giorni in cui si svolgono i laboratori, come si lavorava la pietra, come si fabbricava la calce e come si murava.se invece non ci sono laboratori in corso una serri di pannelli (italiano/inglese) vi accompagneranno alla scoperta dell'universo dei costruttori medievali.Assolutamente consigliata la visita!

Per i bambini una specie di parco divertimenti, per i più grandi divertente e sorprendente, un pezzo di storia che forse i più non conoscono o non ricordano.

Ho visitato questo posto insieme alla mia famiglia e posso dire con assoluta certezza che merita un dieci e lode.Esperienza fantastica.Guida eccezionale.La visita dura circa due ore.

Abbiamo visitato, tramite guida, sia l'area del distretto minerario nella sua parte terminale, sia la parte della zona, Gallerie, di escavazione ed estrazione del minerale. Inoltre, al termine, del viaggio in galleria, abbiamo avuto la fortuna ed accortezza di prendere visione, dopo una lunga, ma piacevolissima passeggiata, dei resti del villaggio fortificato di Rocca S. Silvestro, alle pendici del monte Calvi; che sorpresa. Anche qui una guida ci ha permesso di godere del tutto con estrema gentilezza e disponibilità.
