Our destination was to go to Trieste but definitely found it to be unfriendly to cars. After trying to find a parking place for 30+ minutes we gave up and decided to head south to Muggia. A small town on the harbor it was a pretty little town with lots of character. A nice and easy place to walk around and soak in the atmosphere, have a coffee or a gelato.

Last coastal village before Slovenia, this small fishing village packs a punch when it comes to social mingling with the local cafes and shops, with its small line of nicely modernized beaches along the stretch to Slovenia this village is definitely worth a visitwith Trieste to its North and the largest Slovenian coastal city Koper within a short driving distance to its south its definitely nestle in a great area for sightseeing.

Take the ferry from Trieste on a sunny day and the journey is half the pleasure. By the time you have walked around town and had lunch or an icecream it is time to catch the next ferry back, but it is a nice trip and worth doing.

There is nothing really special about it, but if you are here around and have an hour or two: park your car (0,80€/hour), then take short walk to the main square with the church, municipio and caffes, suvenir shop. Sit down and try good italian coffee or an ice cream. A bit higher from the square, there is also a small castle. Check out reviews at Restaurants category, to pick the best coffee & ice cream (without a seaview, but anyway).

we planned to visit for lunch but got tied up in old town part of Trieste and missed the 11am ferry or there abouts. We planned to have lunch in Muggia and return Instead we visited in late afternoon when it was fairly quiet and restaurants closed

Took a ferry from Trieste to Muggia, small village, nothing to outstanding about it, at least there arn't too many tourists there but it was nice to see, has a main square with a few cafes there to eat and drink if you want.

We took the ferry from Trieste ( ferry stop located opposite Savoia hotel) which takes approx 30mins and includes great views over the bay of Trieste. Return ticket costs 6.90 euros (we were told you can only buy a return so not sure why the price for single ticket was also displayed on the timetable at the boarding point) and the ferry runs frequently during the day. It takes about half an hour to stroll round the village which in places resembles Venice ( buildings adorned with motifs of Venetian lions and the canal filled with boats certainly adds to this feeling). We had lunch at the co-operative restaurant overlooking the sea, which was good value for money and it was great to find out that the fish was caught the same day and the profits were going back to the fishermen who worked so hard to provide our meal! The place was peaceful and looked amazing in the October sun. Three hours will be plenty to see the sights, have a meal and a stroll. Totally worth it

On a nice sunny day this is a fun excursion from Trieste. The ferry has open seating and enclosed. It takes about 1/2 hour each way. Eat or have coffee in the main square of Muggia.

My husband and I went to this cute, friendly, and untouristy sea side town on a rainy Sept. day. We really liked it there. The small harbor was very charming and the the alleys with shops were wonderful We ate pizza under our umbrellas in the pouring rain. If it had hadnt been raining so hard we would have loved to look around more.
