Upon Arriving, we were greeted by Anna who escorted us to the tasting area and introduced us to the families selection of wines. She was very knowledgable about each wine. Not only did she share information about the wines, she also shared some of the winery history with us. The best way for me to explain our experience is to say that it felt as if we were in a friends back yard enjoying a relaxing glass of wine, sharing stories. I highly recommend this vineyard. Very happy and look forward to returning to restock once our Prosecco is gone :).

While staying in Pordenone, Italy, for two weeks, we set out to do some prosecco tasting and buying. The San Gregorio winery was recommended by a local (in Pordenone) and was absolutely wonderful. The drive from Conegliano (where we exited the autostrada) was beautiful and scenic (vineyards all around). After ringing the bell, we were met by the delightful and charming Elisa Bartolomiol, one of five girls who helps her parents with the running of this beautiful property. Elisa is fluent in English and explained every process of the prosecco making, was clear about the various tastings, the awards they had won and sent us on our way with several bottles of excellent prosecco and a recommendation for lunch. This family owned operation was truly an experience to remember -- the pride and love from Elisa were clear. If you are in this area, I couldn't recommend this more highly.

We met Elisa who gave us a tour of this Family run winery- when I say family I mean it- I think all except Dad walked through at some point and all were very friendly. We found out lots about Prosecco and tasted some of their award winning winesNot only are these wines fantastic to taste but they are also very good value with the best Prosecco in Italy only 15 euro- an absolute bargainWe were unfortunately only able to buy one bottle as we have a travel allowance but are trying to see if we can get some to AustraliaThank-you to Elisa- your English is very good and all the family who gave us other travel tips for the area

On a Sunday drive, we followed a single small sign to the San Gregorio vineyard which actually led us to the family home, situated right in the middle of their fields. The oldest daughter, speaking English to us, told us they were a small producer, and aimed to stay that way. She invited us in for Prosecco tasting, and as we tasted 5 or 6, we began to realize how many tastes there could be to Prosecco! We ended up meeting many members of the family, and hauling away more prosecco (really reasonably priced) than we could drink in our time in Italy. An easy, fun wine-tasting.

Located in the foothills of the Dolomites in northern Italy just about 40 miles from Venice, (easy day trip by car) San Gregorio is a small winery with only, as I recall, about four hectares of vineyards. A hectare is, I believe, about 2.2 US acres so it is a small winery, certainly by US standards. The town of Valdobbiadene has several Prosecco wineries; so far, San Gregorio is the only one I have visited. It would be easy to visit more than one in a day trip from Venice.I have visited San Gregorio twice in the last two months. The last visit was yesterday, August 19, 2013. We were welcomed by one of the family, Anna, who was extremely sweet, cordial and generous with her time. We were allowed to taste any of their wines, all Prosecco but one is a "still wine". Prosecco is to Italy what Champagne is to France - a sparkling wine. There are different types of Prosecco as there are different types of Champagne. For me, Prosecco is a refreshing wine to drink on special ocassions. One of their wines won a gold medal at the VinItaly competition; winning a gold medal at VinItaly is are really big deal for any winery especially a small one that doesn't have the resources of many, many other big winery's. In my opinion, that wine is awesome! But, that is not the only one we bought. BTW, the gold medal wine is about $20 US! San Gregorio is well worth the trip. You'll enjoy the drive, the wine and the endearing family.
