You will find these well kept villa's of Palladio in the small village Fratta Polesine. Villa Badoer has a wonderful graden around and inside you will see the amazing wall paintings, kept by the 15 century. The're also a museum beside the villa.

We arrived in Fratta Polesine on the local train from Rovigo into a seemingly deserted station. There aren't any signs directing you to the centre, let alone the Villa Badoer and other attractions. And Fratta does have a lot of attractions. Once we had passed the modern concrete block houses with plastic shutters and came across the first of the town's villas and palazzos (there are 15 in total of note) the vista was far more appealing.A narrow canal runs through the town and the attractive buildings are crammed up against each other on either side. Sadly the approach to the Villa Badoer is quite stunted, no winding avenue before the villa pesents itself, and the visitor entrance is to the side. That said, the villa does retain some of its original grandeur, with the steps sweeping up at the sides and the front to the raised pediment. Previous owners had attached plaster to the walls covering frescoes, which now uncovered bear the scars of the plaster attachment. The proportion of the rooms is majestic but with little to tell you of what you are seeing, unless you know something of Palladio their meaning may be lost.On the ground floor was a lecture theatre and a couple of interactive screens that explain about Palladio's design methodology. As a rural, agricultural villa, Badoer had the barchesses incorporated into the overall design of the building. In the barchessa that doubles as the entrance is the Archaeological Museum. This is a further entrance fee of é1.50, but though small is worth the price. For English speakers the display labels and descriptions have recently been transcribed in English; very well I might add.Overall there is a disappointing lack of information about the villa itself, but I was told that this is going to improve with 'new people' have taken over the running of the villa. The staff were helpful and very pleasant. A stroll through the town is recommended to see the other architecture on offer, and some of the villas are also museums. Fratta Polesine is a little out of the way (though buses and trains from Rovigo are available if infrequent) but if you are interested in Palladio and enjoy finding these little gems it is worth the visit.

This once-stunning villa by Palladio sits in the town and close to other villas in the area. Like them, this villa has seen better days. One of the unique things about this villa is the construction of the "barchesse" or attached side wings that were part of the original design. Most Palladian villas did not actually get these built, but here they are. The overall condition is run down inside and out. The inside frescoes are damaged from a later decoration scheme using plaster. To hold the plaster, the wall has divots made in the underlying surface; now that the plaster is removed, the divots remain in the original fresco work. The perfect harmony of the interior spaces found in other Pallladian vills seems to be missing here. The outside is grey and dull; the frieze of the triglyphs and bucrania (ox-skulls) are barely visible. The front "lawn" of the villa is very small, so you don't get to appreciate the villa from a long approach, as you do many of the other buildings by Palladio. This building is a good example of a one that has not been lovingly restored or maintained over 500 years, such as other Palladian villas Poiana, Emo, Barbero, Foscari/Malcontenta, Cornaro or Rotunda/Capra. There is a nice small museum in the barchesse. The staff there is congenial and informative.This villa is not close to anything and it requires a definite detour to get here. Is it worth a visit? Yes. Even though this villa is not perfect, I am still happy that I visited this example of the master's art.

“Interessante e magnifica” sono gli aggettivi che mi vengono in mente a proposito della “Badoera”, il nome con cui gli abitanti di Fratta Polesine designano l’edificio che dà lustro alla loro cittadina. È “interessante” perché la villa non si trova, come le altre create dal Palladio, fuori dell’abitato, ma fa parte del tessuto urbano, anzi ne è il fulcro. È stata costruita, inoltre, su un basamento elevato per proteggerla dalle esondazioni: ciò ha determinato la necessità di accedervi attraverso un’articolata scalinata a tre rampe. Sia la scalinata sia le barchesse che, partendo dai lati della facciata, si protendono a semicerchio, determinano un “magnifico” effetto scenografico. Nel pronao e nelle sale del piano nobile si ammirano affreschi, se non eccezionali, certo di pregevole fattura. Per lo più sono raffigurate delle estrose grottesche, ma non mancano anche scene naturalistiche. Non sono in ottimo stato di conservazione, nonostante gli interventi di restauro, ma sono molto piacevoli a vedersi. Lungo il percorso della visita vi sono numerosi cartelli che offrono preziose informazioni sulla zona nel Cinquecento, sull’importanza dell’agricoltura, su personaggi celebri come Lucrezia Gonzaga, celebrata per la beltà, cultura e intelligenza in numerosi sonetti dal famoso poeta Matteo Bandello, Sono previste visite guidate per singoli in tutti i giorni di apertura ad orari prestabiliti, alle 10.30 e alle16.00, al costo di € 3,00 a persona. Il servizio è gratuito per chi ha un’età inferiore ai 16 anni.

Villa Badoer ospita spesso mostre ed eventi di carattere culturale; oltre ad essi all'interno della Villa è possibile ammirare dei bellissimi affreschi d'epoca e il giardino situato sul retro.

Perfetta e stupenda villa immersa in un bellissimo spazio verde e con una architettura a dir poco sublime vale la pena di visitarla gli interni sn ben curati

La villa palladiana di Fratta e' attraente per il suo giardino ampio e ben tenuto e per essere stata una dimora non solo estiva per i proprietari che si sono succeduti nel tempo. Nel periodo della bonifica forniva alloggio a chi sovrintendeva ai lavori. La mostra sulla bonifica al piano terra e' interessante e senza fronzoli. I dipinti delle stanze di soggiorno sono attraenti e ben restaurati anche se ormai solo parziali. I granai, trasformati in sale da esposizioni ,danno una bella vista sulle campagne circostanti. La passeggiata lungo lo Scortico corona una visita nella serenita' di un grazioso paese polesano.

Villa Badoer è un'eccezionale testimonianza della storia veneta cinquecentesca, e in più è stata inserita nella lista dei patrimoni dell'umanità UNESCO... Ed è proprio per questo che mi aspettavo di più, non tanto per il luogo, quanto per la presentazione complessiva della storia e delle vicende che la caratterizzano. Il percorso storico è stato a mio parere molto sbrigativo, organizzato in modo non intuitivo in "pannelli" verticali -a quattro lati-, nel pianterreno. Il primo piano, la villa affrescata è spoglia. Non che la bellezza vada esaltata troppo, ma un minimo di spiegazioni in più avrebbe fatto comodo ai "non addetti ai lavori". Al piano superiore erano presenti strutture pannelliformi vuote. Chissà, avranno tolto o dovevano aggiungere? Nota: accanto alla biglietteria c'è il museo archeologico, accessibile dal cortile; nessuno c'era a sorvegliarne le entrate, dunque è dato per scontato che sia incluso nel prezzo... Beh, non lo è! Ma i cartelli non costano niente! Restauri divini, e anche su questo punto bisognerebbe insistere per far capire il lavoro titanico che è stato effettuato. Quindi: culturalmente superba, ma non valorizzata abbastanza! (Più fonti, più foto e immagini, più spiegazioni suddivise meglio nel percorso ecc)

Bella villa palladiana ma un po' spoglia. Interessante la struttura ma completamente priva di arredi e giardini non ben coltivati. Visto il livello mi aspettavondi più. Vale comunque la pena visitarla.

La Villa Badoer famosa e meritevole di una visita è solo la punta di diamante del paesello ben tenuto, con strade in pietra, vie alberate e lo Scortico che rinfresca la zona.....sembra un presepe di ville visto che molto bella è anche la Avezzù, la Monti e la Fanan. Passeggiata obbligatoria.
