This walk takes a bit of an effort for us 50 yo's but is great. The abandoned paper mills, water falls and great views completed by a lovely lunch in Pontone made for one of our best Italy experiences.

Take a fairly gentle walk following the route of the river past various abandoned paper mills. The route is reasonably steep but achievable by a 6yr old and some grown ups alike. The views are amazing and there's plenty of opportunity to stop mid route for a paddle in the cool river (although it's extremely fast flowing and has some very hairy waterfalls, so choose a safe shallow spot)We did the walk in October and it was a very hot day and there was plenty of dappled shade, however the heat of midsummer may be too much.A roundtrip takes about three hours, maybe. But I'd suggest stopping for lunch at Ristorante Antico Borgo in Pontone at the summit of your walk.

A lovely day out walking up the hill following a river with many waterfalls. This is know as the valley of the mills. Numerous old paper mills with the river running through them. Can be a circular walk or you can retrace your footsteps, but it is worth walking round, although there are hundreds of steps to come back down.

The trails are great through the valley. You can visit the old paper mill ruins and see beautiful waterfalls.

The hike that has everything you can ask for: magnificent mountains, breathtaking views of the gorgeous valle delle Ferriere, shady paths close to the crystal clear streams, sparkling waterfalls, ruins of the medieval houses, wonderful lemonade shop, and what not!The weather was amazing and we enjoyed this relatively easy hike with some light climbs, some stairs, and this absolutely lovely winding path. We walked from Amalfi to Pontone and back (2.5 - 3 hours walk). Do not miss it if you are in Amalfi! What a beauty!

Walking in the Valle delle Ferriere is like walking in another world. It's miles away from the crowds of central Amalfi and yet not far as the crow flies. Having ascended a few hundred steps from Minuta, the walk follows more or less the same contour throughout. The countryside is quite wild and you will encounter waterfalls and an abundance of plants. The walk takes between 3 and 4 hours and finishes at the village of Pogerola. From there, you can either walk down to Amalfi or take a bus.

plenty of steps, through lemon groves from Ravello to Amalfi, interesting industrial ruins, take water on hot days then bath your feet in the stream at the head of the valley

I will start by saying we did a couple of hikes and the trail maps/signs were slightly confusing. We started in Pontone and walked to the Belvedere point lookout which was spectacular and definitely worth the 10 minute detour as we were on our way to Torre dello Ziro. After the Tower, we were going to hike down to Amalfi and through the Valle delle Ferriere. Unfortunately we went left when we were supposed to go right due to not seeing a trial marker/sign on the way we should have gone. We ended up having to hike back a little ways, but it was still worth it. You walk by the old paper mills and see a couple of picturesque waterfalls. I also enjoyed walking along the lemon tree groves and looking back towards Amalfi. If you're looking for some exercise and a pretty view, I would recommend this hike. Caution: In general, hiking/walking in Amalfi is not on flat ground. It is cobblestoned and has MANY stairs up and down. Bring some good foot wear and if if you have knee trouble or any trouble ambulating, take care. Lastly, bring water as there isn't a place to buy water once you're on the hike.
