One could break down a review of this place into reviews of the villa itself, the gardens, the expositions and the permanent collections--and they're all very, very different. The Wim Wenders exhibition was a marvel: an hommage to Edward Hopper with large format prints displayed along the walls of this very Italian place. Truly worth the visit. The villa itself is much larger than it appears at first glance, much of the space being devoted to neon light installation art. It is not for those who don't like anything beyond representational art: it is minimalist and experiential. Perhaps a paper explaining the artist's concept might be helpful. The villa itself is all terrazzo and formal space--not a place that invites you into immediate intimacy. It keeps its distance and requires some effort to understand the flow, the glory is in the ceilings where grisaille and trompe l'oeil have pride of place. The gardens were freshly covered in snow when I visited, the formal structure's strong bones and lines were visible in almost black and white due to the wan light and grey skies. The restaurant was a pleasant break after the visit, and the ensemble is worth the visit.

Well managed by Fai Italian trust preserves part of the modern art collection of Panza di Biumo. Periodical exhibitions of contemporary art and photography. The villains magnificent and strolling in the garden a pleasure. A little gem in a otherwise quite sleepy provincial town.

An amazing Villa, surrounded by a magnificent garden, built in the middle of the XVIII century. In the halls and in the large stables, are now exhibited over one hundred works by contemporary artists, as well as rich furnishings of the period from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century and an important collection of pre-Columbian and African art.

I visited Villa Panza for see the exhibition of photographs by Wim Wenders. The parking is not too big for all visitors. The ticket was expensive, excessive for low number of photos shown. Not exist any discount for seniors. Some photos aren't bed expost because are in front of windows and you can see only reflected.

WE spent a very happy afternoon there this summer, and it was a pity we had to leave at closing time. Even our initially reluctant tween children had to admit it was "epic", especially the temporary exhibition; we all loved the confusion caused by clever lighting and screens, and it brought about several interesting conversations. Very much recommend a visit, but give yourselves plenty f time to enjoy it!

If you're an art and architecture lover like me, don't miss Villa Panza in Varese Italy, between Lakes Maggiore and Como. In this exquisite 18th century villa, worth seeing for the architecture alone, resides the unexpected: one of Europe's most important collections of American contemporary art. The juxtaposition of new vs. old has never been more cleverly conceived. And don't miss the videos of collector Giuseppe Panza whose life story, and obsession with art, are worth the trip alone.

Really enjoyed our visit to Villa Panza! The juxtaposition of the modern art in the classic house was stunning. I loved the gardens, and we had them all to ourselves. And the temporary exhibit, all light installations, was quite interesting.

The 20th C. art collection is wonderful. Colorfield paintings give way to Dan Flavin's splashes of neon color in this sprawling villa. You've never seen so much in your life! The gardens surrounding the villa are nice, as well. Don't go expecting period furniture, though there is a little.

After paying admission, parking, and lunch at the cafe, I left feeling like I had been pick-pocketed. The villa itself is a treasure, although not unlike many others in the area. Garden has lots of green space, but again, not overly inspiring. The art exhibit really left me scratching my head. Room after room of white painted walls with varying colored lights, or natural light coming through a hole in the wall or ceiling. Lunch in the restaurant was overpriced and skimpy. They could have at least covered my parking since I ate there! I was sorry to have wasted my afternoon and money.
