Great place to relax in the another foot of the abbey. Would strongly advise to try and take a taxi boat and not the chartered boat as you will probably want more time to explore. Not really alot to do there so if you aren't one for lack of shops and such, you may find it a bit boring.

Accessible only by sea, this attraction is a must see. The small bay has the most crystal clear water I have ever seen. Snorkling and or scuba diving is a must to view the statue or Christ under water in the marine reserve which runs the entire length of this peninsular all the way to Portofino. There are so many fish and it is possible to view them just by throwing some crumbs into the water. Frequented by the many ferries in summer it is a true tourist destination whether you are just changing ferries for Portofino and beyond or just lazying in the sun on the small beach or eating at several of the small restaurants perched on the hillside and beside the abbey,

Architecture, well-documented visit (clearly presented and multilingual), tortoises in gardens (for my 12 year-old top photograph) and fabulous hydrangeas (for me!), delightful museum boutique, friendly atmosphere, boat ride + beach + cafe/hotel (we only stopped for a drink but food looked enticing) just next to the abbey with terrace overlooking the shore so you couldn't miss the return boat.

The approach from the sea gives a magnificent view and feeling of isolation. The Abbey stands serene in its hidden cove. Even from the ferry you get the impression of the splendid architecture. We would have enjoyed a walk around, but this was just a stop on our way to Portofino. Will return to spend more time here again. If you are in this are do not miss it. The varying shades of blue of the Mediterranean Sea finish it off nicely.

We rented a small motorboat in Santa Margeritha and sailed via Porto Fino to this fairytale place. Like a dream the monastery comes into vision when you pass a rock and slowly sail into the lagoon where the belltower and the magnificent building lies virtually on the beach. We parked the boat on a buoy and was picked up by a boatman who took us to the beach. We spend a nice afternoon there resting, swimming and diving. Great!! Remember your luncpack and drinks...

A short boat trip from Camogli to a little inlet with just the Abbey, a beach and a few restaurants. The Abbey and its history are fascinating. The restaurant where we had lunch served the worst Mozzarella we have ever tasted!

Must visit when in the Portofino region: access by ferry only which makes it all the better. The monastery covers the little bay from side-to-side, beautiful architecture. The contrast between the scale of the building and its surroundings is striking.

I loved the abbey, it's not massive and not the prettiest but it's location is priceless, my wife and I were on honeymoon and hiked from portofino, it's a hard hike we saw numerous people who had turned around because of its difficulty and the heat of summer doesn't make it any easier. To me the difficulty of access was part of its charm and an easy boat ride would have diminished the experience, you have to appreciate the dedication of those that built the abbey in such a location.

The beach was so crowded, but the Abbey was nice and peaceful - only downfall was that you had to pay extra to take pictures!

We arrived to San Fruttuoso by hiking. It was a gem of a place. Absolutely breathtaking! We hiked from Camogli to Punta Chiappa to the Batterie and finally arriving in San Fruttuoso. I recommend the hike up until the Batterie, and only to EXPERT hikers from Batterie to San Fruttuoso. It was difficult and required using a chain to maneuver around boulders that jutted over the sea hundreds of feet above. We were not prepared and luckily a more experienced hiker came along to guide us through. Again, great if you're adventurous, but go prepared for a challenging climb. We arrived in San Fruttuoso after the last ferry back and took a taxi back to Camogli. This was amazing and well worth the 80 Euro trip. Take the ferry or splurged and indulge in a taxi!
