On this day in late October we visited the local museum with its fascinating displays, particularly of the bronze jewelry ensembles adorning elite ladies of the day. Pay particular attention to the "mannikin" in the first gallery and to the line drawings throughout in order to gain an enhanced appreciation of the types of jewelry worn by those women. The labels and didactic panels are in Italian. A short walk from the museum brings one to the remains of the 6th century BC Temple of Hera, labeled in both Italian and English. At the time of our visit in late October the archaeological park was literally drowned by an enormous flood on which the local media devoted special attention. As of this writing, one is shocked by the prospects of how damaged this site is and there is no indication about when it might be re-opened to tourists.

This is fantastic Greek temple ruin with 15 standing columns that dates from 560 BC. And not another person in sight -- anywhere! If this were in Rome or Athens or any number of other places, it would be swamped with busloads of tourists. For us, it was completely empty. Pythagoras was its most famous resident during the days of Magna Grecia. The name derives from the fact that the Knights Templar once gathered here before leaving for the Crusades. The site is always open and free.

This is located just off the E90 between Metaponto and Taranto. The columns that are standing are interesting to see since they've been there for thousands of years and make very good photo settings.There is a small parking area and the park is unattended so access is free and you just walk in.You can see this in less than 30 minutes and makes a nice stop when driving along the coastal road.

Al ritorno da una vacanza fatta a Scanzano Jonico abbiano notato dalla Statale per Reggio Calabria questi monumenti dei Greci a forma di colonne di grande interessi storico-culturale, ci siamo fermati e fatte alcune foto.

Non serve andare in Grecia, la grecità è a due passi da noi, esattamente a Metaponto! La città ospita, infatti, i resti del tempio di Hera e un piccolo museo con antichi reperti... l'intera area archeologica è bellissima, peccato che non sia per niente pubblicizzato e che le indicazioni per raggiungerlo siano poco chiare.. un vero peccato!

La Magna Grecia non è da mangiare! E' la zona che i Greci vollero indicare nella loro totalità le colonie greche fondate nel Golfo di Taranto. Metaponto offrì asilo a Pitagora quando fu banditi da Crotone, Qui aprì una scuola e vi morì.Il complesso delle Tavole Palatine era un tempio dorico (sec. VI a.c.).

Percorrendo la SS 106, subito dopo Metaponto, appaiono le indicazioni per le Tavole Palatine. Resti del tempio di Hera con annesso piccolo museo (non sempre aperto). Le colonne, di grande effetto scenico nella campagna circostante, sono visitabili liberamente, cosa ottima, ma non hanno alcun tipo di protezione e sorveglianza, aspetto negativo. La possibilità di toccarle con mano è comunque cosa gradita, e la sera sono splendidamente illuminate.

Il Tempio di Hera è una magnifica vestigia della Magna Grecia. Le due file di colonne si ergono in uno spiazzo fra gli ulivi giusto a lato della Statale Jonica. Vale la pena di effettuare la deviazione e spendere un po' di tempo a contatto con questa meraviglia.Il voto in meno per il fatto che non vi è sorveglianza, il museo antistante era chiuso, chiunque potrebbe entrare e sfregiare questo ricrdo del nostro passato.

Premessa: il parco archeologico di Metapontum è composto da 3 siti principali: il Museo Archeologico, le Tavole Palatine e l'Area Archeologica.Erroneamente indicate a volte come Tomba di Pitagora, le Tavole Palatine sono i resti del Tempio di Hera, ubicato al di fuori della città antica. Peccato sia stato vandalizzato negli anni e sia poco valorizzato, perché le colonne hanno un fascino notevole.

Mal indiqué sur les routes et absent du GPS, il faut avoir envie de visiter ce site ! Il en vaut néanmoins la peine, même si la visite est brève. Deux beaux alignements de colonnes doriques et les fondations du temple d'Héra, avec un panneau informatif. A voir si vous êtes à proximité.
