It's really a little nice place! I went there with my boyfriend and I have to admint that it's a very romantic place, very charateristic , tipical Abruzzo's mountain town, there are very good restaurants too.

Pacentro is an exceptionally beautiful little medieval town in the Maiella National Park in Abruzzo. It is just impossible not to fall in love with it and want to keep returning. The view from Pacentro over the Peligna Valley to the mountains is breathtaking.

Pacentro is a small, old stone age town. It was the most amazing place I've been to - ever. The people are so nice, the food is incredible, and the prices are even better. If you want to get a true feeling of Italy, this is the town to go to.

At the outset, let me say that I'm not sure why Pacentro is mentioned as an attraction for Sulmona. Pacentro is a town about 15 min from Sulmona, and it has its own attractions. That said, it is worth the drive to spend a morning or afternoon there. It is the home of Madonna's (The American singer) ancestors.

For a small town an incredible density of good eating. Lots of festivals. With return of expats in Summer English and Italian can be heard and Spanish and Danish, German etc. There are agricturismo venues around in the countryside near pacentro. worth looking into the local wine. A truck just like the one featured in the Pizza ad if you are from Canada comes around weekly with music and a loud speaker and fresh produce. Today we went down to the piazza and a farmers mkt and clothing mkt were in full force until siesta when they were packed away and vanished. Very close to nature. Nice ambiance and lively. Ancient norman castle overlooking town.

Breathtaking views, worth a trip to explore. It's only 8kms from Sulmona, the people are friendly and more than happy to tell you their life story.

I visited Pacentro last week during a stay in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Despite the Madonna connection, this village has retained the tradtional Italian village community feel. Some of the buildings in the historic centre are over 600 years old, with several churches and a castle all within walking distance of each other. We were lucky enough to visit Pacentro on the festival day of their patron saint. The younger residents all seem to have a grasp of English and explained that a church service would be followed by a procession through the village. During the service, we waited in the square and watched the locals passing the time. It was a privilege to view the start of the procession when young and old started singing and following a statue of the Virgin Mary (all done in typical Italian fashion of there being 10 minutes of chaos before everything just happened!).There is a lot of history in and around the village (visit the main square for a useful map with all points of interested - including descriptions in English).

We took the short trip from Sulmona to Pacentro on a Sunday afternoon during the rest period, so we didn't get the chance to experience any of the shops or restaurants. But just walking the streets of the town and talking to some of the older gentlemen sitting in the park was enough to delight us. The way the town is set into the hillside is a sight to behold.

We bought picnic items at the market in Sulmona and drove up the mountain to above the castle in Pacentro where we had our lunch and admired the view. Then we enjoyed a walk around the village. Well worth the drive up.
