I didn't think Neumarkt itself was a special square, but I'd recommend it because it's the place where you can get a decent, full shot of the beautiful Frauenkirche. At the time I was visiting they were performing works on the square though, so I might have to go again to see the end result.

This part of the city was totally devastated in WW2 by allied bombing - the fact that anything resembling what was here before is amazing in truth. Now the harsh bit, sorry but I felt it was like Disneyland - really nice, beautiful but just not real. In truth I found the area south of the river rather soulless - far nicer and more genuine feel to everything North of the river I'm afraid.

History alive, walk around, see ugly buildings (the symphony hall), recently restored/rebould buildings (nice), ongoing excavations and try to imagine what happened here.

The Bohemian Quarter was qurky with lots of graffiti, bong shops, alternative music and restaurants but interesting to walk through. We had a fabulous pide at a crowded Turkish restaurant.

A very lively space, with plenty going on, with cafes and restaurants a plenty; found the bicycle rickshaws very handy, and just loved the ambiance of the place.

A beautiful and busy shopping hub opposite the old market square. We took refuge there to escape the rain. It is full of tasteful designer shops and restaurants. I simply loved the shopping!

Dresden was bombed almost to nothing and they built all this back up using as many original materials as possible...it is a WOW moment for sure!
