Plino

Cusanus (or Nicholas from Kues) was a Church politician from the Mosel which scaled the hierarchy up to Rome. It is also a very interesting thinker who leaved a trove of writings some of them quite advanced for the middle ages. Combining both abilities was at that time quite difficult and risky.Cusanus died in Rome but he left money for a foundation to allow 33 old needy men to live a moral life in Bernkastel. This foundation is still running sind 1458 (see cusanus.de). Due to this the opening is restricted (visits Tuesday 10:30 and Friday 15:00 from April to October. Arranged visits are also possible.

Not much to see - a nice chapel in the back but very hard to navigate as the site is still used as an elder care facility so we were unsure where we could go and where we couldn't.Okay if you're in the area.

It was very interesting to learn something about this scholar and church 'politician' who founded this old people's home.Check the opening hours.

picture perfect little town along the river just asking you to sit down on a streat side cafe and have a cup of coffee and enjoy the old fashioned buildings that look like something from a story book.

Es lohnt sich ein Besuch der Vinothek , wo man bei guter Beratung tolle heimische Weine kaufen kann . Auch ein Besuch der Bibliothek lohnt sich

Mooi 'ouden van dagentehuis' al honderden jaren daarvoor in gebruik. De kapel is zeer de moeite waard om te bezoeken en een rondgang door de 'hospitaal'gangen en de binnentuin moet je zeker doen.

Das Cusanus-Stift im Stadtteil Kues wurde von Nikolaus von Kues, dem großen Kardinal, Philosophen und Juristen, im 15. Jahrhundert gegründet. Noch heute werden hier Bedürftige gepflegt und beherbergt.Täglich geöffnet sind die St. Nikolaus-Kapelle und ein Teil des Kreuzganges mit wunderschönen Gewölben. In der Kapelle befindeen sich bedeutende Fresken, Kunstwerke und eine Grabplatte des Kardinals. Hier fand sein Herz die letzte Ruhe, während der restliche Körper in Rom gebettet ist.Leider sind die anderen Räume, insbesondere die berühmte Bibliothek, nur zweimal wöchentlich im Rahmen je einer Führung zugänglich. Bei besseren Öffnungszeiten lohnte sich der Besuch mehr.
