A must do, absolutely! If you're staying in Stuttgart, it's definitely worth the trip out there, but make sure you are there in time for the guided tour! It was the best guided tour of a palace I've ever had! The tour guide was fantastic, and did a good job of going through the sorts of things that were everyday life of the royal court (including how to bow and curtsy!). We also got to have a look into the servants quarters (just a little), which was something I've always wanted to do. They run programs for kids to learn how to be members of the royal court (which parents can be part of), and also have lessons on how to eat like a royal (with food!). I'm definitely going back for those! The gardens are great too, really lovely to stroll around. When I went it looked a little sad, still wintery, but they were just planting the new flowers so soon it will be beautiful again!

A beautifully kept and restored palace with plenty of artifacts and incredible woodwork with a ton of history thrown in...how could you go wrong? ;-)

...when visiting Ludwigsburg - do not miss it! Excellent tours through the castle in English with great details and a lot of interesting background stories. The owners were not as crazy as the famous king Ludwig in Bavaria, but there are also freaky parts in that castle...recommended but remember : no photos due to the original textiles...

There is nothing to dislike! The tour was perfect in length, very informative but not too much. The palace is huge with over 140 rooms. We got to tour the entire second floor that was about 67 rooms. I enjoyed this palace more than any other castle or palace I have ever visited! Don't miss this! It's only about 20 minutes away from Stuttgart. We planned to spend the day in Stuttgart and stopped here first. So glad we did!

Awesome experience. The guide was one of the best we have ever had on our travels. The gardens are indescribable. The theatre in the castle, the church, etc are amazingly beautiful. The 3d paintings had me in awe. I have never seen such beautiful 3d painted ceilings!

I had the luck of being in Ludwigsburg during beutiful, warm and sunny winter day.It was plenty of families and the castle experience is very realistic.I could not visit the whole residence though, since it is really huge! It's a good place were a family could spend a day out, both receiving historical details in a long tour through the castle or simply outside letting the kids play in the big garden facing the building.Beautiful!

My father and I visited during a weekday and had the entire palace to ourselves! Our Docent, Ms. Anderson, was one of the most knowledgeable and engaging guides I have ever had. Congenial and patient, she answered all of our questions thoroughly and had finer points and vignettes to illustrate our education. Plan to spend at LEAST an hour and a half in the palace and and about 30 minutes in the Carl Eugen apartments- I recommend doing the tour first, then the apartments, as it will mean more. You may take pictures in the apartments for a small fee, which I felt was worth it, as I could not take pictures in the palace itself. If you find yourself pressed for time, I recommend skipping the apartments and doing the tour. Young children may not have patience with the tour, but there is a children's museum, which looked like fun. Do not hesitate to visit in the winter, but dress warmly, as the palace is drafty. If the weather is warm, the gardens are beautiful and kids will love the fairytale gardens- plan for at least an hour there, depending on how active your kids are.

Beautiful palace with interesting history. We toured the part of the palace you could go to on your own, and also the special exhibitions. The rooms we saw were lovely, and the audioguide also adds context to the experience. However, the special exhibition of clothing was outstanding. If you are going soon, it's worth a look. Unfortunately we didn't have as much time as we would have liked, so missed the gardens, and also couldn't stay for the only English language guided tour of the exclusive parts of the palace which was at 1.30pm. Keep that in mind!

The palace was well worth the train ride from Stuttgart. The place is very large and the English tour was good but relatively fast for the amount of area to be covered. Be sure to stop the guide and ask as many questions as you can. What was interesting was that much of what's there is original and unrestored. For example, lots of silk wall treatments. This is also a disadvantage as many rooms were kept dim and the unrestored wall coverings were tattered and dull. That just made our experience feel more authentic. One of the highlights of the tour was the rococo church and rococo corridor. It was over the top.
