When we went here there was a "fate" on with lovely stalls etc. The Dom is a impressive building with a good gift shop next door. Car parking was easy and close to the Dom. There is also a good restaurant with nice food in the grounds as well.

Der Altenberger Dom ist ein so schönes, erhebendes gotisches Bauwerk, dass ein Besuch sich immer wider lohnt. Leider befindet sich dort in direkter Nähe eine Großbaustelle, der ehemalige Klosterbezirk wird komplett renoviert und umgebaut. das schränkt den Genuss der Umgebung leider etwas ein.

Wer es noch nicht gesehen hat, sollte sich das riesige gotische Fenster ansehen. Wenn man sich der Klosterkirche nähert, so wirkt das Gebäude etwas düster. Seltsamerweise scheint es im Innern der Kirche heller zu sein.

Der Altenberger Dom ist eine gotische Abteikirche,die 1379 geweihtwurde.Die dreischiffige Säulenbasilika weist eine strengearchitektonische Gliederung auf und überzeugt durch ihre schlichten,eleganten Formen.Dies und viel mehr erfaren wirdurch Info-Material gleich neben dem Eingang.Das Westfenster,größtes mittelalterliches Kirchenfenster in Deutschland sollteman sich ganz genau anschauen!Ein Besuch wert ist auch die Markuskapelle aus dem 13.Jahrhundertund der Küchenhof mit seinem Kräutergarten.

Der Altenberger Dom ist sehr schlicht von Innen.Aber bedingt durch die Fenster ist es immer sehr hell in der Kirche.Das ist ein zu unterschätzender Faktor.Somit ist es eine der schönsten Kirchen die ich kenne.Erinnert mich ein bißchen an nordfranzösischen Kathedralen vom Aufbau und der Helligkeit her.
