the new museum is rather forbidding from the ousdide and sadly lacked a comprehensive guidebook. Much of the material is stunning- and the outside sculpture court is an excellent idea- however the displays are not as informative as one would expect- very academic in many cases and also lacking in explanation and cllarity- which is a shame- the introduction is clear but the displays- many unfinished -could be so much more informative. The site looked sad and I was appalled by the amount of reconstruction that was going on which amounte d to rebuilding!

Since we had a car, it was easy for us to combine a tour of Royal Tombs at Vergina with visiting New Archeological Museum and Archeological site at Pella. It is probably the best way to see these first rate attractions. I doubt, it is doable using public transport, whereas an organized tour is rather expensive and does not give you freedom of exploration. The new building of Archeological Museum of Pella is modern and spacy and contains several very famous mozaics. Taking pictures is allowed and the thoughtful design of the building makes it possible to see mozaics from above. At the time of our visit there was also a very interesting temporal exhibition of artefacts found in local burial sites. This exhibit was also very well organized and fascinating. The only upsetting thing associated with our visit of New Archaeological Museum of Pella was that people in charge of selling tickets demonstrated very poor taste by making fun of our accent. I am appalled that it took place in an institution which mission is to celebrate high culture.

The Pella archaeological site and the Archaeological Museum are absolutely amazing! If you do not have a car rented you can easy get there by a regular bus going from Thessaloniki. We left the bus in a field, there was no sign where to go (at least that time). There is a village visible in the horizon but do not go in that direction as we did as it was a great mistake. If you want to go to the Museum at first choose the way that seems to lead to nowhere but in fact it goes directly to the Museum and the archaeological site of Pella located nearby. It takes about 20-30 minutes on foot. The road followed the cotton field when we were there. The archaeological site is for archaeology and ancient culture madcaps. You need to move your imagination as only substructures and pillars preserved till nowadays. There are also some mosaics protected by provisory shelters left in their original location and reconstructed in some places. You can see more mosaics reconstructed as well as many artefacts and jewellery in the Museum. The exhibition is really interesting, showing life of the ancient Greek community in the former capital of the Macedonian state. Not many visitors reach the site, so you can enjoy the sightseeing in peace. We spent there almost half ot the day. The place is really worth visiting.

Archaeological museum of Pella is situated some 10-minutes drive from Archaeological site of Ancient Pella. Museum is modern and well arranged and is very much worth a visit, to see those artefacts is contributing to better understanding of excavations and context. There is a good car parking nearby, Museum is not very large and can be explored in some hour time. Among the artefacts in my opinion very interesting are the reconstruction of a wooden door, the well-preserved bed and couch of Macedonian style, few mosaic floors, and some bronze parts of statues.Interesting is also a well-made and detailed map of Alexander the Great Empire beside the entrance.Archeological site of Ancient Pella lies some 45 minutes drive from Thessaloniki along the modern road to Edessa. Site is relatively easy to find, but do not expect to see it from the road, you need to turn right and follow an older road which goes parallel with the modern one, in fact the purpose to built a new section of modern road was to go around the Archeological site of Pella, because the old one went through the site and divided it in two parts, this is not so any longer. There are not much preserved on the site, but the restoration works are on-going, just we saw the works on raising up the ancient Agora. Remains of few buildings with mosaic floors can be seen, the most important of them are protected by roofed pavilions. Site is not very large but give an idea of Pella as it was before, by setting everything in connection with terrain and landscape.Museum of Pella is nearbyand can be seen from city ruins, but not immediately beside, it requires a some 10-minutes drive around.

This is a new very well laid out museum containing archeological finds in the area of northern Greece. It is particularly important to understand the period of Macedonian ascendancy and absolutely essential as an introduction to a visit to the tomb of Phillipus II at Vergina. Even for those not infatuated with ancient Greece, it contains a collection of interesting and beautiful objects, in particular the mosaics.

A great newly built museum in a modern design building. A vast amount of ancient artifacts, close to the ancient architectural park where all was found. The park is definitely worth a visit too, you can buy a combined ticket at either of the two places.Opens at 11am on Mondays, so don't be too early.

This newly built modern Museum is located near the original ancient archaeological site where the valuable collection is preserved in a very simple and elegant manner. The 10 minutes Video presentation was a good start; the mosaics are really beautiful, and the huge collection of pottery, statues, jewelry and coins was amazing and very well presented. The 3 Euros Entry fee is negligible compared to the treasures you see.

This is quite a nice museum but signage is not great in town - lucky it is quiet. Lots of mosaics which have been preserved in very good condition. The ticket price includes the ruins which are a short drive away. Looks like a lovely town.
