Everybody knows the story about the Greek sub attacking the German convoys so to see this little piece of history and to hear the guides commentary was very enjoyable. The cave has suffered badly from the ravages of time and the earthquakes the area is prone to but it was a very good trip. I would certainly advise anybody visiting the island to go on one of the cruise boat trips from Nidri they really are well worth using.

Papanikolis, together with its sister ship, Katsonis, formed the first class of Greek submarines ordered after the First World War. She was built at the Chantiers de la Loire shipyards between 1925–27, and commissioned into the Hellenic Navy on 21 December 1927.The cave is one of the biggest from Greece. The Cave takes it name from the Submarine Papanikolis that hided there from the Germans during World War.If you'll go there with Odissey Boat tour you can go deeper and you can dive

We visited here as part of the Ionian Islands cruise and was worth the stop just to see how big it is and the history of it, very interesting.

Papanikolis Cave was part of the day cruise we took with the Makedonia Palace (see review). Apart from the history related to it, I didn’t find it very interesting.

we booked a whole day cruise trip from lefkada to near by islands. The cave was also included, there is nothing really special about it except the historical event. I wouldnt really take time to just see that location

The cave is really nice mostly because of its story of the submarine that was hiding in it - worth seeing from a cruise

We went in the cave in a medium sized boat, where you can jump off and swim in the beautiful surroundings. It's an amazing sight. Truly worth the visit. We loved it.

Papanikolis Cave is a very popular tourist attraction. It is a relatively deep cave that a small dinghy can enter. Rumored to be a hiding place for boats seeding refuge from the Nazis during WWII, it is a fascinating cave to enter and in which you can swim or paddle. Larger than meets the eye, I would encourage anyone who wants the experience of swimming in a cave to definitely put Papanikolis Cave on their list of activities while sailing the Ionian Sea.

We are skippers and had our own boat- a yacht with a small boat attached. So we took turns visiting the cave and entering it. It was really cool- especially for the kids. But I wouldn't take a special trip there.

I went there with a big boat, so we didn't expect to enter the cave....but it's a strange feeling when you enter there....the water has so many colours.....it's beautiful.
