Wow what a great experience visit in Nissyros, it is a must see very much enjoyed the visit. It is a beautiful island and active volcano offered a unique experience, you can walk close to it and you can even see water bubble under your feet in the open holes. I would recommend a visit when staying in Kos.

We took a day trip from Kos to Nissyros and it was a fantastic trip! Nisyrros has retained its traditional architecture and doesn't cater to mass tourism. It has small traditional towns with narrow streets decorated with colored pebbles depicting various images. It is also home to one of the still active volcanoes of Greece. You can walk on the caldera and see steam and hot spots. Impressive for children and adults. There are some great traditional food and drinks. The beaches are rugged since it is a volcanic island. I would highly recommend visiting to get a feel of traditional settlements.

I've been here once attending a workshop - spent 3 weeks in there - and my memories of the place are so fond I know I'll be back one day. It's beautiful, it's dramatically greek and has a special vibe due to the volcano presence. I also had great greek food :)

This little island was so beautiful and typically greek. It seemed unspoiled despite the amount of tourists visiting mainly for the volcano. It is worth a visit even if the volcano is of no interest to you! The tiny twisty streets are like a maze and it Is so picturesque the whItewashed houses with pots of herbs growing outside are so pretty and shops selling local Produce were a great find! The volcanic ash face mask I purchased hasn't worked any miracles yet but it was worth a try!!!

This small island is really stunning! We were there through an organized trip coming from Kos; the island has stunning views, an old (and still active) volcano to visit and a beautiful small village which can be visited by foot in less than 2 hours; plenty of small shops to buy any souvenir you can imagine.

Every day from our hotel we could see this great big crater across the sea. So a visit was in order. Nisyros is an amazing day out. A visit to Nikia will afford great views of the caldera. The actual caldera is big enough to play a game of football in. Mandraki is small but typically Greek. Best pizza I have ever eaten was in one of the restaurants on the shore.

We berthed our yacht at Nissyros and saw the chance to hire some motorbikes for the spectacular ride up to the crater of the volcano. This has it all . Sulphur fumes, hot springs and gushing jets of hot water, pumice stone and amazing colours of brown, yellow and ochre. It really is quite edgy and threatens to erupt at any moment. On the ride back to the harbour we stopped off at the charming village of Emborios on the edge of the crater. The taverna Apyria spills out into the platia by the church and the food is good quality and reasonably priced. Explore this charming village which was once abandoned but is now being rehabilitated by Athenian weekenders and has many alleys and little nooks and crannies.

It's always intresting to go new places and this year it was a Nissyros trip. If you are a person that like to fix a lot of things so book this trip by yourself and just pay the half price as what your travelagency take. This trip to a Active Vulcano is really nice, so i recommends it.

Really lovely and unspoilt, home of a volcano, about 1 hour ferry transfer from Kardamena in Kos. Walk into the centre of Mandraki the main part and take the left turn this will take you to some taverns, take the right path this is will take you to the seafront tavernas, best to have a guided tour to get the best out of your visit, we travelled with V Tours

Had a pleasant boat trip across from Kardamena where we were herded onto a coach to be taken to the volcanic crater. Lovely views on the way up. A small payment of 2 euros to access the site, from there you can walk down a narrow path into the crater. A very strong smell of sulphur, lots of pumice stone laying around, jets of steam, bubbling water pools and sulphur deposits. This can be captured on video. Very hot over the far side where most of the activity is. Advise a good pair of shoes as you can feel the heat coming through. You only get about 40 minutes, back up the top is a cafe and public toilets. On the way back the coach stops at a couple of scenic places for photos. Back in the village your left to wonder around, lots of cafe trying to grab your attention. Some nice narrow streets with a few shops as you make your way towards the monastery. It can get very hot and there is little shade apart from the cafes. For any cat lovers I'm afraid this is one of the worst places I've seen for animals in such poor state. Worth shopping around for the price of the trip, I paid 15 euros but was quoted up to 30 euros.
