When travelling by Greek ferry from Rhodes to Sita, Crete (or the reverse), consider spending time on the island of Karpathos. Once there take a day trip to the hill top village of Menetes to visit a remarkable traditional Karpathian home, the folk museum with some good displays, WW11 storage caves and the church of the Assumption of the Virgin. It is best to take the local bus in the morning from Pigadia up the hill to Menetes. Energetic Irene, the village volunteer tour guide meets that bus and she will have an informative, action packed tour for you (she speaks, English, Italian and Greek). Visit you wish to visit at other times, on arrival, drop into a cafe and ask someone to contact her. Thank you Irene!The buses do not co-ordinate well for a return trip, I suggest you enjoy a break at the local café and that you walk back to Pigadia. Remember to buy / take water with you and wear a hat. Yes it is 8 km, however to sell it to you … it is down hill, you walk viewing some wonderfully scenery, time passes and you know everyone overeats on the fabulous Greek food so enjoy the exercise. We stayed at the Atlantis Hotel in Pigadia, July 2014.

Passando per menetes non potete non fermarvi al museo..dall'esterno non sembra nulla di che invece si trovano simboli storici e anche una bella chiesetta ortodossa. La guida è una maestra greca molto simpatica e spiega con sintesi la storia di tutta l'isola e i simboli (es sole..delfini..mulini). Interessante

Mycket sevärt museum som bjuder öns intressanta historia. Föremål som visar människornas liv på ön och ger dig som besökare ännu mer ut av semestern.

Spændende at se og hører hvordan og hvorfor hjemmet var indrettet som det er. Museet er ganske lille men ikke mindre spændende.

Πρόκειται για ένα μικρό αλλά ταυτόχρονα πολύ περιεκτικό σε ότι αφορά την ποικιλία των εκθεμάτων για την παραδοσιακή ζωή στην Κάρπαθο και ποιο συγκεκριμένα στο χωριό Μενέτες. Το μουσείο αυτό έχει φτιαχτεί με προσωπικό μεράκι από μία οικογένεια του χωριού όπου είναι και οι ξεναγοί του. Δεν υπάρχει είσοδος αλλά μπορείτε να αφήσετε όποιο χρηματικό ποσό επιθυμείτε. Μπορείτε να δείτε παραδοσιακά εργαλεία και παλιές φωτογραφίες.
