We went to this ancient Greek Island for an excursion off our cruise ship. We found it fascinating and rich with Greek history. We had a wonderful local tour guide who was very well informed and brought drawings of what the building might have looked like before the destruction. The museum was very interesting and does not take long to walk through. We were there in September which was still fairly hot but the cool breezes off the waters kept us comfortable. Must see for history buffs! No one lives on the island so it is as it was left in ancient times. With exception of some small buildings for maintenance and curator staff. There is a small store to purchase refreshments; limited choices. Bathroom is in the museum.

I had never heard of this attraction. It is called the birth place of the Greek Gods. It is an amazing site to visit. We don't realize what people had at that period of time. It still is in the process of being restored. We, in the USA, think that running water, heated homes, and theatre, came later. Not that this was something that 2000 years ago people wanted and expected. I would go again, just to be amazed.

Something that you must do while you're in Mykonos. Ask your hotel staff to check the schedule of the boat first before going to Mykonos town port. Preferably leave with the morning / noon boat and back with the last one. This place is HUGE. You need a whole day if you want to explore the whole island. If you're a history nerd, pay a guided tour. If you like explorations and an expert on google search - then you can explore the island by yourself while reading facts from the internet.Anyhow this place is one of UNESCO's certified site and one of the largest preserved historical site in the world. So it is worth a visit. A little tips: bring one or two bottles of water, bring a backpack, use your sun screen, jeans (no shorts) and hiking shoes. Enjoy the outdoor!

If you are a history, archeology or art buff this is a must for your bucket list. Be prepared to spend at least 4-5 hours exploring the deserted island and magnificent structures. I have been here two times and hope to come back.

My wife and I visited Delos during a recent cruise. The ship stopped in Mykonos. We bought a ticket for the ferry shuttle at the Mykonos harbor. Take the earliest boat possible because the island crowds up later in the day. The island includes lots of paths that are rocky and gravel. Wear good shoes. It also gets hot so take water. There's an unbelievable amount of artifacts throughout the island. The extensive history of the island is very impressive and worth researching before your visit. It's a must do! It was the hit of our Mykonos visit. But don't forget to explore Mykonos too. Whitewashed buildings and paths with beautiful views, sidewalk cafes with ouzo!

While you are in Mykonos, you should put this island at the top of your list of things to see. The island is uninhabited aside from the few archaeologists still working on the excavations.Much of the ruins you will see here are as they were left after being destroyed in 88 BCE, if I remember the tour guide well. I was there in mid September 2014 and the sun was intense (apparently it always is). You should bring some water with you and a hat. There is much to see and it helps to read a bit before you visit and/or hire a tour guide who will give you a rundown in about 30-40 minutes. Then you should explore the archaeological site on your own. Much has been said about it's history, and I will just tell you that if you like ancient Greek history then this place is one of the top 5 in all of Greece. I went twice in 1 week. You can't see and soak in everything in 1 day. Take on of the earlier boats to the island and return with the last one if you want to see most everything. And do climb to the top of Mt. Kinthos and enjoy the magnificent 360 degree view of the surrounding islands as the winds try to knock your hat off. I saw people having little picnics up there. It's a calm and serene place and well worth the not very difficult climb.

My family traveled from Naxos to Delos/Mykonos on a day trip arranged through Greeka tours. The Delos portion of the trip was excellent. While the museum was mediocre, we really enjoyed exploring the ruins, getting lost, and just enjoying this ancient city. Wear shoes sturdy enough to traverse gravel, unpaved trails, and walk through hip high grass (if you lose the trail like we did). This site, with the ocean in the background, is stunningly beautiful! This one one of my favorite sights in Greece.

Truly an extraordinary place to visit. Worth a visit. Part of a Sea Cloud adventure of the Aegean Sea.

A huge archaeological site to explore. There are many ruins to see. We hired a guide when we got there and she told us how the city was laid out and explained what we were looking at as we walked around. It is very windy and hot there. Take water and sunscreen and wear good walking shoes.
