So many wonderful memories of family days on Plakias beach. The best end is the east side, but not right at the very end if your teenage kids aren't quite ready for the naturists that occupy that part. Safe swimming though little interest for snorkellers. We've even had some exciting days when the surf gets up, but just be careful when it does! A beach bar offers hot and cold drinks and basic sandwiches too. Certainly worth a visit!

Plakias is a long beach which has the usual facilities sunbeds showers etc and has several tavernas along the beach road. The west part of the beach by the cliffs is much better than the town side of the beach, but the west part of the beach is mostly nudist. At the end of the beach there is a path under the cliff side which takes you out to sea to an old watchtower, just by this there is a cave to explore - take a torch

Fantastic beach for that morning swim at sunrise! Can get crowded later on. Prefer the eastern most section.

Plakias beach is rocky in parts, however venture along to the left of the bay and it becomes sandier. Be aware that the further left you go the further you get into Nudist territory. The wind seems to blow right across the bay onto Plakias beach which can make it uncomfortable. On windy days walk a couple of kilometers along the road to Souda Beach where it is far more sheltered, but again very popular with Nudists. If you want to spend the day at Plakias beach a few of the Tavernas offer free loungers and umbrellas for people who eat in their establishments, if you do not go to eat be prepared to pay E4 per person for a lounger and umbrella.

Pebbly/rocky in front of the town becoming sandy as one moves east. Can be a problem to get out of the water if you pick a mega-pebbly bit and there is a bit of a swell! My wife has the grazes to prove it! Beds/umbrellas to hire and that's about it.

The beach here is ok. A bit windy and nice and shallow but very rocky in places, we enjoyed walking along it in the evening ....

The eastern side of Plakias beach is all you need to spend a perfect day on the beach. There is a bar with refreshments, free umbrellas and sunbeds, crystal clear water, great wiews on the mountain ranges all around. The sand is maybe not the most beautiful one, but it is clean.
