There are very very few places in the world where you can visit a petrified forest. Here is the largest in the world. The museum is in a part of the forest and offers a large selection of specimens as well as worldwide examples of rocks and petrified wood. Highly recommend for anyone with an interest in history or geology and especially for children

It's difficult to 'rate' a natural phenomenon like the Petrified Forest near Sigri on Lesvos. It's sited on a steep hillside, and consists of silicified tree-trunks lying hither and thither where they fell after or during a volcanic event. Some tree stumps are in place. Preservation is very good. It surely is worth a visit, but it can be VERY hot in the daytime. At Sigri there is a small geological display in a tailor-made building which explains the genesis of the petrified trees. Worth a visit.

This place was beautyfull, THE view and the silence of everything. It was special and bloddy hot! Good for a morning trip!

This summer we visited this fantastic place for the second time and enjoyed every hot minut. Expect to spend 1,5 hour if you wish to see almost the whole area and bring water and good shoes. And your camera! And more trees are waiting to be excavated in the area, even where the road is enlarged! very exciting!!

this is an interesting sight... seeing these large fossilised trees is an unique experience. however note that it is ideal to visit as early as possible in the day since there is no shade, except for little gazebos, and it does get hot.

the forest is about 15 min from sigri.impressive to see these petrified trees perfectly conserved.not to miss!!!

Worth every penny and kilometre to get here. It is a stunning recovery of the 20 million year old forest and landscape of Lesvos, buried in a massive eruption. It is in a beautiful valley, well laid out and the staff are very informative. This is the best World Geopark I've visited, and the ultimate explanation of the varied and beautiful landscapes and ecosystems of Lesvos. Every effort should be made to see this place and the Museum in Sigri, which is one of the best museums I have ever been to. The Greek government should be promoting Lesvos in Scotland and the rest of Europe far more actively for the natural beauty, the important ecosystems, extraordinary wildlife, fascinating people and tranquillity of ths working island.

A very disappointing trip to see the Petrified Forest. I'm sure they would excite all those interested in geology and pillars of stone, perhaps I was expecting too much. A explanatory leaflet on entry would have been a good idea but the only guide available was a book which would have suited the aficionados but the average tourist? As I've said, seen one petrified tree and the next one looks very similar and after a few it gets a little monotonous. The park is very large and although it has good paths there is very little shade so don't go on a hot day, if you do take lots of sun cream, bottled water, good footwear and lots of energy as the park is very hilly. On entry, the paths lead down to the bottom of the park and so the real effort only comes on the return when you are already hot! There is a cafe with shade at the entrance but once out there in the park think of what Noel Coward said "Only mad dogs and Englishmen .....".Finally, if you are disabled and/or a wheelchair user just consider how you will get back up the paths.

it was an interesting and different site and if you are planning to visit Lesvos, you should pay a visit to the site.

Been twice now and absolutely love it. Would definitely recommend visiting, even has a lovely shaded café at the entrance.
