Interesting place to visit. Quiet and peaceful. Full of interest, monks cells, beautiful flowers, old photo's dotted around the walls, peacocks loose around the grounds - try to spot the albino peacock. Lots of little chapels in the grounds. When we were there in June there was also an ostrich in the grounds. There is also a very welcome coffee shop. Well worth a visit

Our 2nd visit, never went into main building but walked around part of the grounds seen black pigs and baby ones and two goats standing on back legs eating the leaves off trees. It is just nice to pull in and have a cold drink with all the small churchs around you .

We visited Limonos whilst touring the island by car. As you approach it seems to dominate the whole valley - little chapels/monks' cells dotted all around the main monastery buildings. It has a peace and solitude about it that are truly moving.

Leaving Kalloni village, going north, to Molyvos, you'll find some signs on the left side of the road, leading to Eressos, Sygri and Moni Limonos. Follow the road through Dafia village and in 6-7 min you'll see the monastery on your left.(Here, I would like to say that I was confused with the monastery of Panagia Myrsiniotissa, which is located on the north of Dafia village and because it is well seen from the road, you are confused because you think it's Moni Limonos. But as you're following your way to Moni Limonos, you leave it behind and you think you have taken the wrong way. Anyway, this small nun monastery is very beautiful, simple and old-time featured and worths your visit as it really gained my interest too. You continue the main road after Kalloni and you'll find the sign "To Moni Myrsiniotissa" in 500m from the previous signs.)Moni Limonos was built by Saint Ignatios in 1526 and it's dedicated to Taxiarchis ( Archangel Michael ). It's a monastery for monks and women are not permitted to enter the main church but they can visit all the other areas. There's a very interesting museum ( 2 euros for the entrance ) where you can see very old manuscrips, books, icons, clothing and more. Please, don't miss visiting it!The whole building is unique. I was so charmed by everything that I couldn't stop taking photos of it. You feel as if you're transfered to a past time. There are peacocks wandering in the yards and a small zoo with ostrichs and deers at the back side (free visiting).Small round towers all around the main building are for those monks who wish to lead a hermit's life. It's better to visit it before noon because there are time regulations in every Greek monastery, all year round.

The appartment we stayed was at Skala Kallonis, so we rented mountain bikes and we decided to visit this monastery from a mountain path that starts from Metohi Monastery which is very close to Skala Kallonis. When we finally arrived at Moni Limonos, the view was spectacular in the valley of Kalloni! The monastery exists since 1526. Moni Limonos in its own museum has unique collections included very old books, coins, icons, stones from Lesvos island and much more interesting things to see.Don't forget also to visit the monastery's zoo!
