Slides are a thrill, the longer one was a bit too much for us, so we took the stairs. The guide was fun and nice. Don't be intimidated by the necessity of wearing overalls in the mine, it is not a messy place at all. Highly recommended.

We had spent half a day there and was a good experience to go back in to the time when the mining used to take palce. The guide was bery friendly and the beast part was sliding down the wooden logs to go down in the mines.

This is a grate attraction to the family. You learn a lot about zaltsburg and salt mining. You get to dress like a miner. Ride the miners train and slide the slides. It is actually a lot of fun

My kids were very reluctant when we told them we were going to visit the salt mine in Hallein, when we finsihed they were amazed about itThe mine itself is really worth, value for money is superb as you can also visit the celtic village and the celtic museum in Hallein.the tour lasts for 70 minutes, and we enjoyed it from minute 1 to 70.I would recommend anyone visiting Salzburg tro go there.#trhe celtic village is very nice, as the kids could interact with a lot of things in the cottages, so they could experience a bit of the celtic culture, then we went to the celtic museum in Hallein, it was nearly empty, but again something I loved is that the kids can interact with a large number of items in the museum, really interesting for all,in Summary we enjoyed a lot!!!!.

We visited the salt mine in late December just because the bad outside weather and it was exceeding our expectations. I've been in salt mines before, but this was special in many ways. Our guide was very professional, speaking 3-4 languages and explaining everything in details. During the tour short movies were projected explaining the history of the saltmine. It provides a good historical basis showing the importance of the salt in the Salzburg region and also the quick historical background of the city itself. There is a boatrip crossing an undergound lake. The mine is also fun for children and cheerful adult. You start with an electric train ride into the mine which leads to two sets of 42 metres (138 ft) wooden slides to the lower levels of the mine. Pictures about the trip can be bought at the end and also e-mailed to your friends and family.

We bought our train and entrance tickets the day before at the OBB counters at the Salzburg main train station. But we made the mistake of buying the train tickets that were a little too early and arrived at the Salt mine at around 9a.m. when the the tours officially starts at 10a.m.. The souvenir shop is closed and there was nothing to do. We were however lucky that we didn't have to wait in the cold and were able to sit inside the waiting area. The tour was a little over an hour and I found it a little boring at some point as there was nothing much to see in those caves. But we had a lot of fun down the wooden slides and my children (6 & 7 yrs old) really enjoyed the little train ride into and out of the mines. BE SURE to time your departure if you are taking public transport like us as the bus only comes every hour and on the weekends some buses only come only every 2hrs. Our advice would be to walk out of the the Salt mine when the hear the church bell chime (every hour) and the bus should arrive in the next 15mins. We unfortunately missed our bus and had to walk back to the Salt mine to avoid the cold. Lesson learnt. Wish that they have more frequently buses for a tourist destination like this. Would I visit again? Not likely. Once is enough.

Before we entered the salt mine, we all had to put on overalls, so as not to get our clothing dirty when inside the mine. It is recommended for visitors to dress warmly, since it can get quite cold inside the mines (8-10°C).The tour took about 70-80 minutes, and our guide was very friendly and informative. The highlight of the entire tour of the mines was being on the old miners slides. Most of us found it so fun that we climbed up the stairs just to have a few goes on the slide. After the tour, we spent some time in the small huts on the slope above the salt mines, where one can learn more about the different tools and equipments that the miners used. There view from up there is also magnificent, and there is even a small playground for families with kids. The salt mine is very easily accessible from Salzburg by public transportation - just take a train to Hallein, and transfer to bus number 41.

I've bуут to a few salt mines before, including one in the area, and expected a lot of picturesque caves - there were none, unlike in others. Otherwise, it's a good trip underground across two borders.
