Offers a great view of Linz from the comfort of the restaurant so stop and enjoy yourself there for a while. The view of the Danube from the castle grounds is also quite nice. The Nativity and Church Altar exhibits were quite extensive and especially fitting for this season. Worth a visit!

My friend and I allotted three hours to explore the museum and it was not enough! We finished only the top two floors. This place is huge and the interactive displays on technology are a lot of fun. I think that pretty much ate our time. We came at around Christmas and they had a special exhibit on the nativity. I have always thought that nativity is centered only on birth of Christ at the manger but I saw other exhibits such as Christ's circumcision ceremony and Herod's order to kill new born babies. It was weird but eye openingI enjoyed looking at all the historical stuffs they have in there like weapons from wars, religious sculptures, old coins and even ceramics. All the while I thought old ceramics were all sourced from China. Silly me.The museum also gave us a good view of the city and the Danube River. It was a very cold December afternoon and everything was overcast but the bits of city lights somehow made the view a bit interesting. This museum comes highly recommended. I enjoyed every bit of it and I was happy we could take photos.

The Schloss museum with its modern extension is situated above the city and there is a wonderful panoramic view from there. We were very pleasantly surprised to be given free entry because of our seniority! This is a very good museum and we had it to ourselves. There is a good collection of twentieth century painting, wonderful Jugenstil glass a Beethoven room. This museum would repay several visits. The staff couldn't do enough for us.

One could easily spend the entire day roaming the numerous rooms of this museum. There is also a lovely, airy restaurant with a view overlooking Linz.

To begin with, the grounds of the museum have some great vantage points on both the city and the Danube. We spent two or three hourse inside and never got to the upper floors. The most interesting exhibit was the special show on World War I, with its emphasis on how it affected Upper Austria. There were ration cards, posters, household implements, and even patriotic toys. The exhibit also covered the experience of the locally-raised regiments and the internment and POW camps in the vicinity. In addition to the World War I exhibit, we looked at the ecclesiastical art, the collection of medieval weapons, and the musical instruments. We would have loved to stay longer, but our time was limited. One could easily spend a day here.

We visited this museum and since we love the decorative arts, we found it just wonderful. It is a little bit of a climb but worth it. The view is also wonderful. Senior citizens are free.

This museum is just ok. For me too many exhibition from history to today´s period. Sights from science, literature, music, technic etc. Not so many visitors, reasonable price of 8 Euro.

My wife and I were "doing" a river cruise and we docked in Linz. We waltzed up the steep cobblestones not far from the town's center and entered the Schloss Museum. The museum is world class. We went through the section labeled Folkart and Technology in the a.m. and returned for the art (heavy on medieval art, sculpture and artifacts) and a retrospective of Austria's participation in WW I in the p.m.. There is little English in the signage and the staff is only capable of giving directions. Nevertheless, we felt that we had hit a treasure trove of Austrian culture. We bought a Linz Pass at the Visitors' Center for 15 euro (24 hour pass to most museums and many other discounts). Our only regret was our extremely limited German.

This review is about the restaurant that is part of the Schlossmuseum. We visited the restaurant with a business party. Upon entry, you arrive in a very nice setting with a nice bar corner to have an appetiser. Then when you make sure you have a table by the window, you will have dinner while overlooking Linz and a magnificent view. The different courses were very well prepared, presented and very tasty. The wine was good as well, as was the service. Next time in Linz, I would come here again!

Almost quirky but very stimulating and eclectic collection especially the new stunning archeological section deep down under the Schloss. Only small but intelligently arranged and would be good for children to help develop perspective of time. English descriptions in booklet would help. I really liked how history is taken seriously not "dumbed down" but still presented in a manner that we can relate to. The "quiet space" that uses art and photographs to explain the touchy subject of genocide is respectful, honest and moving. A must see for all.
