Kolossi Castle is situated 11kms west of Limosoll so is worth a short visit if you are travelling from Paphos. It was built in the 15th century on the ruins of a former fortress dating from the early 13th century and some of these ruins can still be seen. The castle belonged to the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem and for a few years in the 14th century it came under the control of the Knights Templar. it's 21 metres high and has three floors.Up to the 15th April it will be open 8.30-17.00 then from 8.30-19.30 16th April to September 15th.From September 16th it's back to 17.00 through to April.Of interesting note is the local wine, Commanaria. At the wedding banquet when Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre it is said that he declared the wine "the wine of kings and the king of wines".The sweet wine is named after the Commander of the Knights Templar and is one of the world's oldest wines. Kolossi has excellent views from the top and is worthy of a short visit.

I lived at RAF Akrotiri for two years and passed this castle every day without giving it a thought. On the other hand I would drive several hours to see other sites of antiquity in other parts of the island. Then I returned to Cyprus and took an interest in the historical period of the Crusades; THAT's when I realized what a gem this is.Of great significance to a historian of that period and an absorbing visit for a layman when combined with the nearby Kourion and Apollo Temple sites. Also excellent photo opportunities as it can be viewed across vineyards with the Troodos mountain in the background. And the excellent Curium beach is nearby for a cooling swim after a hot visit.Bone up on the Knights Templar before you visit the castle and it will enrich your visit.

Castle was amazing and very interesting. We had a very knowledgeable guide on the trip which made it worthwhile.

Nice to visit as part of a broader tour of the area, but not the a 'highlight' of the island. Gets quite crowded with visitors making it hard to actually see the best bits. Stairs quite dangerous, but then that is to be expected in an old building. One in our party fell on the approach stairs and hurt themselves quite badly.

This place is in between "Average" and "Very Good". It's an actual three-storey castle that our taxi driver recommended. It's fairly empty inside (except for a fresco of Jesus), but there is a lot of signage that keeps you informed as to the various parts and functions of the castle. It's got nothing on some of the more ancient castles with real functional purposes (like in England or Germany) but it's still a nice diversion.

A very well preserved castle that shows some interesting history of the area and island - very cheap entry and well worth finding for an hour's stop-off.

Excellent for one day trip from Larnaca ! Tickets are cheap and tranportation was decent ones. Still more historical artefact are required there.

Like all of Cyprus at this time of year it was very quiet and we had the place pretty much to ourselves. It is peaceful and very interesting if you are into the history of the Island. Well worth a visit.
