Fabulous castle with plenty of walls to walk on (to take in the view of the pretty Kyrenia/Girne harbour). The highlight for us was the shipwreck of Girne - a bonus if you're interested in maritime history.

The harbour is wrap around outdoor food restaurants. Don't even glance at a menu or the workers will be in your face. The harbour is packed with tour boats that are past there sell by date.

The Castle is an imposing structure sitting on one side of the horseshoe-shaped harbour. It houses the Shipwreck Museum -the remains of a merchant ship and its cargo date back to the 4th century BC.You can see the Middle Aged castle dungeons, a Neolithic settlement and many more. The view of the harbour from out here is breathtaking.Entrance Fee is €4.5 or 12 TL.

You can spend a peasant couple of hours at Kyrenia Castle. Admittance is 7 turkish lire per person which, like entrance fees to all the historical sites in Northern Cyprus, is modest. The exhibits are sparse and are fairly interesting but displayed in a very basic manner. Not a lot to recommend it but a visit passes a couple of pleasant hours of your holiday.

A bit like a TARDIS this place. Looks much larger when you're inside than it looks from outside. Take a walk around the ramparts if you are feeling brave as there are no particularly sound barriers to stop you dropping off edge in places. Keeps the walk interesting though! ;-). Not particularly suited for less able bodied or fit people as lots of stair climbing and dungeon descending. Don't rush the visit and for an added bonus visit the castle coffee shop/bar just outside the castle entrance for an experience like you've never had before!

The castle is well worth visiting - the views from the top over the harbour are worth the small entry fee alone. Seeing the ship dating from the 4th century BC was amazing.

inwas amazed at the sight of this magnificent edifice.I wonder how long does it take to build this structure and by what number of people.A castle believed to be constructed in The Bronze Age is still standing and even stronger than some new ones.A tour of the castle will give you an illustration of people of that period lives their lives and rulers ruled the people.
