Small Zoo with good varied collection from around the world. This was already our second visit. The lady keeper in the reptile house was extremely friendly and was keen to share her enthusiasm with us and other visitors.In general the animals seem to be well looked after by the Zoo staff. The Zoo is located in wooded surroundings on the outside of Miskolc in a peaceful location.

Originally it was a wildlife park showing the wild animals of the surrounding Bükk mountains. Today not only local wild animals can be seen here, but also exotic animals like camels, monkeys, parrots, tiger, leopard. The zoo has about 700 animals of 130 different species.

Miskolc has a nice and medium-sized zoo that offers a great variety of animals. The beautiful nature around is the most important factor, you can walk in a forest, it1s really relaxing ! The small café can help a bit the hungrier travellers. Altogether a great day-out

We went to Lillafured then the Zoo.The Zoo isn`t huge,but has a decent assortment of animals.We spent a couple of pleasant hours there and had very tasty hamburgers for lunch from its small café.A relaxing place to stroll around.

The drive up the hill to get to the zoo went on longer than expected but finally we reached the car park in front of the entrance. The zoo is more of an old style, open layout without much concrete and one can enjoy a walk among the forest trees while looking at the animals. There is quite a good variety although it may not compete with larger zoos - 2 types of exotic monkeys, tigers, porcupines, various birds, pecaries. There is a an area where one can pet goats should one be so inclined. They do have some of the typical Hungarian animals such as the mangalitsa pig (with white curly hair), Hortobagyi marha cattle (maybe only one specimen), wild boar and deer. Most of the cages are more than adequate in size except for the lone European wolf than could do with a larger range and had worn out a path around his/her enclosure.The cultural park is a section with some busts and statues remembering Gerald Durrell amongs others. Altogether a pleasurable experience and well worth the visit.

If the weather is nice and you just want to spend about 2 hours in a natural place this zoo at west end of Miskolc is good for that. There are animals not only from Europe but also from other regions of the world: monkeys, tigers, parrots, kangaroos, wolfs, bears, deers, etc. You can walk in a forestry from one exhibition to the other and enjoy excellent fresh air.

My wife and I decided to visit Miskolc zoo recently as it's not too far from where we live.We originally wanted to visit Nyiregyhaza zoo but didn't have time.We finally arrived at the zoo after losing the directions at one point....one minute there were signs, the next there weren't which is not great when you're at a T-junction.The setting is very pleasant, surrounded by forests and the entry fee was only 980 huf (about £3). It was a fairly cold day and there was still quite a lot of snow on the ground which hadn't been cleared from the footpaths within the zoo, this made things very slippery in places.There was a good selection of animals for a small zoo and many of the enclosures were very visitor friendly. Not only do they have animals from several continents, they also have several species found in the forests of Hungary such as wild boar, mouflon and deer. The management are in the process of developing some of the enclosures. Unfortunately some of the older enclosures are far too small for the animals within. The tiger exhibit held 3 tigers and was just a small mud bath. They had no stimulation and merely wandered around the perimiter in an anticlockwise direction. Other animals in very small enclosures were the wolves, fox and panthers.Overall we enjoyed our afternoon but we'd have rather paid a little more money and know that more was being done for the long-term wellbeing of the animals there with larger pens and more stimulation. This is a very old-style zoo and not in keeping with modern expectations. Would we recommend this zoo? Yes, it is great for children and the more people visit the more likely the enclosures will be improved which will be better for the animals.
