The castle and the neighbourhood has developed a lot in the past 10-15 years since I last visited the place. Easily accessible, the parking place is close, a paved path is going up to the ruins. The hiker-type can of course still climb from the very bottom. For the hungry traveller there’s a superb cafeteria with delicious cakes near the parking, but some snacks are also served at the entrance of the castle. What has not changed is the view. It is still beautiful with the lake surrounded by spotted volcanic hills.

The kids loved it. After climbing some stares we saw the ruins of the castle. Up there you will see a great lake balaton view. Price: adults 600 HUF. Kids 300 HUF. Kids under the age of 6 free. A great place for kids of all age.

This is a great, well-maintained ruin castle on the northern side of Lake Balaton. You must climb a small hill first, then there are even more steps inside the ruins, but it's well worth the climb: on a clear day you can oversee great distances over the lake and the surrounding mountains. If you are doing the Hungarian National Blue Hiking Tour (Országos Kéktúra), be sure to stop here as the castle has its own castle-stamp! I also recommend the ice cream place at the bottom of the hill, very cool tastes there!

The several year efforts of local initiatives were strengthened by bodgetary support in the recent years, so Szigliget Castle gets nicer and nicer, and provides more an more attractive programs as well.

This is a really impressive and well maintained attraction. Our children had a great time clambering all around, imagining themselves firing cannons etc. I particularly liked the section with decorated and furnished rooms depicting life at the time. The Benedictine chapel, the oldest part of the ruins, is also a very spiritual place. A great way to spend an hour or two.

At first you may thought that it is really a long trail to get to the ruins of the fortress. It may appear quite elevated from the parking area (in front of the church) but actually it is not. It may take you around 5-7 min to get to the entrance of the ruins (of course, it depends on how fast you are especially the trail is a little steep, at least for me).Once you are on top, you will have a great panoramic view of the Szigliget village as well as of the Lake Balaton. This is a must for photographers.
