The mud pots were awesome! We walked around for about 30 or 40 minutes watching all the bubbles and rainbow colored water on the ground. Definitely check it out if you're doing the ring road

You can't bypass this awesome sight as it's located just off the main road into Lake Myvatn. The bubbling mud, steaming water, and erupting water spouts are just spell-binding to observe. It's so conveniently located just at the base of the lava fields. My husband and I returned a second time on our way out of Lake Mvatyn for a second look.

It would be criminal to miss this out of world sulphuroursly steamy spectacle, really easy to get to.

(may trip 2014) I cannot said how we was surprised to see this site between the snow mountain. in May it's was very unique to see. So as it's directly beside the road it's easy to take some time to visit it.

Walked though heavy snow from the road, but it was worth it. Very unique spot with open sulphur pits. Totally different experience. Worth a thirty minute stop.

This place is awesome, steam and mud come out of the earth, sulfur is everywhere, the mud pots are amazing to sea. The landscape is unique. Well worth a stop, see my photos...

Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. A very deceptive ascent, but well worth it once you're at the top, amazing views.

Excellent fumarole area with lots of whistling, puffing and bubbling from down below. But also the only paid access in Iceland we have encountered. Easy to access from the road and therefore many tour buses spit out their people there. Fortunately you can take the path up the Hverir overlook (to all sides, including Myvatn lake itself!) to enjoy totally different fumarole field, much better and nicer than the one below. Good trekking shoes recommended though because of slippery, muddy surface on the clim and walk down the slopes.

Defibately worth a stop and not at all our of your way. Really interesting area that is right on the ring road. Do a quick walk around, take some pictures and move on to the next place. Would not recommend skipping such an easy place to see!

Amazing! It did smell of sulfur but it was unlike any place I have ever been to. It is like being on a different planet. Worth a visit.
