Worth the hike but we had to park about 1km away from the car park due to ice on the road. Great view once you get up there.

An unplanned visit and hike to the top but well worth it. We had seen the crater from our overnight accommodation and thought we'd take a look. It was a moderately tough walk to the top and definitely not for the unfit.There were a few people at the top but by the time we got half way around the crater rim we were the only people there. It was quite cold with a few snow flurries but we were well prepared so not an issue. I have never really experiencd complete and utter quiet until this day! The only sound was our own breath. No birds, insects, vehicles or even wind. I could have been on the moon. The moment will stay with me for a very long time.

We hiked from Dimmuborgir to this crater and then up it. We took the steep hike up the side of the crater closest to Dimmuborgir and that was tough but fun (it definitely helps to be in shape!). It was very windy up top so we were very cold walking around the crater, but the view from the top is magnificent.

Very large and beautiful crator. My wife and I hiked to the top but we felt it was just as cool seeing it from the bottom. I think there are other areas that are more worth hiking up.

great pics of the lake when you get up. Bugs wont be bad on top either. its worth seeing the sheer size of the crater. makes for a nice 30 min hike

Depending on your shape, the hike up is easy. The view is gorgeous - from here you finally understand the beauty and importance of Myvatn area! Given the parking lot sizes, it may be crowded.... we went there for the sunset and were all alone with a burning sky. Marvelous!

We didn't have lots of time as we lost a day due to gale forced winds so had to cram in 2 days activities into one day. We were told to see this so went for it, took the left side (easier) took about 15 mins to get to the top. We then walked to the highest point of the crater, basically walking half way round ....took lots of photos inside the crater and also of the lake and scenery. If you want to do the whole loop and take photos save approx 1.5 hrs ..if like us you want a good look round, take photos and are happy to march up and back 45 mins will do it. Worth the visit. Bring along hiking poles as it's quite a steep climb up to the rim. You'll be rewarded with a good view of the surroundings around Lake Myvatn. It would be good to cater some time (1 hour or so) to go round the rim to see the different scenery (desert, lake, lava fields, etc). The crater is beautiful when lit up by sunlight. Do bring along a windbreaker as gusts are strong around the rim.

Just go there and you will immediately understand. It looks difficult to go up but it is defiantly worth it. On top of the mountain, you will see something that you have never seen before. It is not a long tour all together that deserve the effort.
