From downtown Reykjavik this lighthouse is a good 45 minutes stroll along Seltjarnarnes, Reykjavik´s most westerly district.The island of Grotta where the lighthouse is build on, is to be reached by foot only during low tide.Nice subject for photography especially with a stormy sky and lit by the bright sunlight!

We had some time to kill after we checkout out of our hotel room in Reykjavik and before heading to the airport. We had a rental car, so headed out a little past the airport to the coast. The lighthouse was not open, so you could not go inside. Took a few pictures and stretched our legs before the long flight home.

Great for a small trip at nature site close to the city center. We took bus #11 going westwards to Hofgardar. Beautiful scenery, rich on bird life in the right seasons.Only possible to walk out to the lighthouse at low tide. Make sure to check when the tide is rising to get back in time. Closed in nesting season about May 15th to July 15th.

We saw northern lights here on Friday 30th Jan. It was a short taxi ride and great as it was away from the city lights. The photos of the northern lights came out really well too.

Nothing much here except for the lighthouses and a ship. Bitterly cold on a winter night. Almost gave up when the lights didn't appear, just as we were leaving, the lights came on and it was spectacular!!! Went with grayline tour... too many people, would be better if u came alone by car.
