The most exciting part for me was being where scenes from Game of Thrones had been filmed. Holy cow. The marble streets...streets of marble, really?...are exquisite, impressive, and stunning. Never walked anywhere like this before in my life, and it's pop culture connection just put it over the top for me. Once in a lifetime experience and since I was on a cruise I had no choice except to experience it with the chaos of all the other cruisers but it only enhanced my experience of it, didn't detract from it

Been there for many times, even in the hottest days of the year and always the same question; is it really impossible to put some jardiniere planted with an olive tree? To make a shade, and to put some green in the stone...to make an event...whatever...

This is the main thoroughfare of the old town and its difficult to see how any visit to Dubrovnik could avoid this walkway. The lack of vehicles make the place even more special and relaxing. It easy to imagine how this would have been centuries ago although we are grateful imagination doesn't include smell as the drainage/sewridge would have been a challenge in centuries pastThere are many cafes and retail outlets along this walkway - we ventured up one of the lanes and found a lovely cafe for brunch - a little less crowded and a little more value. These are easy to find - they put out boards at the entrance to their lane. The clock at one end is interesting - a single hand and a digital time, partly in roman numerals - very different

You're bound to end up in this street when you go through the old town centre of Dubrovnik. It's full of charming cafes with places to sit outside and cool off as well as churches, statues and souvenir shops but try to stay away from 10am to 4pm when the cruise goers are in town. Their groups make it almost impossible to see or enjoy your visit. If you're an early bird, get there before 9 and have breakfast, but if you want to sleep, do like the locals and only go in after the cruises have left.

The Stradun is basically the main street of Dubrovnik's historic city centre. It is pedestrianized and made of shiny marble flagstones. The old town as a 'herringbone' design, with this street forming the backbone, and little streets running off at right angles on either side. If you come to Dubrovnik you can't avoid walking along here at some point, and you can't miss it. The Pile gate and Onoforio's fountain are at one end, the bell tower, Cathedral and Orlando's column at the other. It's a wide street, but often very busy and crowded especially during the daytime and if there are big cruise ships in port. There are shops and banks and restaurants all along it. Find your way here, and you can find your way to any point you want in the old town. All of life is here, and if you visit Dubrovnik you'll walk up and down it many times!

From the first sight of the Stradun, as soon as you walk below the arch of the lower gate of Pile you will be impressed of a town that lives in something that looks like taken from a tale about the midde age, all to the end of this 296 mt long main street of a completely pedestrian town, where you discover palaces, churches and monuments that transports you directly into the glorious times of the "Ragusean Republic" you will love this experience unles you happen to schedule your visit on a day where more than 10000 guests (mostly from Cruise Ships) have the same program and you get stuck for long time until you enter the old town. Don't go in July or August... but otherwise it may become one of your best trips.

It was really nice walking along the Stradun - especially at night with the lights - really romantic - not so many people in November, too!

Placa Ul is the main street, an elegant thoroughfare with shiny stone flags. We found an excellent cafe/Bar/Restaurant near the Franciscan Friary. Here's a tip. Return here as the lights go down and enjoy the floodlit elegance of it without the crowds. Even better at Christmas with the Christmas decorations.
