This has to be an incredible demonstration of the extremes of Human endevour. The solovetsky Monastary is on an island in the White sea in far north Russia. The fact that it exists at all in such a location is a huge representation of human accomplishment and its history of occupation is astounding. This is a place which the most intrepid traveller must go.

This island and the monastary are like a trip back in time. This is a working monastic center, which makes it one of the most interesting and meaningful places I have visited. The medieval monks created something special -- with the water mill, the many chapels, the gentle face of Jesus in the small chapel over the entrance gates, the sound of the priest at vespers, the bells clanging to announce mass...A special visit.

Even to arrive to solovki is a great adventure in itself,the place is absolutely beautiful,we have Solovetsky monastery and a wonderful "lunar" beach 20 minutes from the monastery in the white sea.I'd like to suggest a very good book called "the journals of a white sea wolf" It's a very good staring point to consider to visit this magic place.

It is history.It was undergoing renovation during our two visits, maybe is still renvated now. It needs to rehabilitate from the dreadful past and live its full life.

The Solovetsky monastery is truely enchanting. I love the location, the light, the wind, the singing monks... BEAUTIFUL!It is a holy place for the Russian church. I would have loved to know more about the traditions, history and rituals I saw people performing there. Unfortunately, no information in english. Read a book after the visits, but would have loved some information during the stay.

Приехал сюда, можно сказать, случайно. Но под впечатлением нахожусь до сих пор. Это место действительно обладает неописуемой благодатью, которую дарит каждому, посетившему эти святые места. Многословным не буду. Сюда надо просто приехать и посмотреть.

Мы еще не успели зайги в бухту, а все глаза уже были прикованы к силуэту монастыря. Вблизи его стены и башни выглядят еще величественнее. Сложенные из огромных валунов, расширяющиеся книзу и поросшие мхом они кажутся здесь абсолютно натуральными, как-будто были здесь всегда и им все нипочем - даже английские пушечные ядра оставили на них только едва заметные царапины.За этими стенами бывало всякое.Но еще долго (очень долго, я надеюсь) эти места как магнит будут притягивать к себе.

Сам монастырь, да и Соловецкие острова в целом - местность, где останавливается время. Несмотря на обилие достопримечательностей и неописуемую красоту здешней природы здесь хватает времени на все. Причина этому - то, что здесь забываешь повседневную суету и как бы всецело погружаешься в мир прекрасного и духовного. И даже если ты последний грешник, здесь тебе словно дозволено стать хоть немного, но чище, чуть-чуть приблизиться к богу.

Если кто еще не был на Соловках- вы счастливые- у вас все впереди!!! Впереди потрясения, впереди красота и величие , впереди радость !!! "Ты не бойся Соловков- написано в одной книге- они ближе всех к Богу!" Это обращение к ссыльному на Соловки. Да , это удивительное место, намоленное и святое, утопающее в крови во времена СЛОНА, сегодня- место для паломников, для верующих людей и для всех ценителей красоты. Чтобы попасть на Соловки, надо 2ч плыть по Белому морю от станции Кемь, а потом вы попадаете в удивительный мир, обласканный Богом и Природой. По приданиям говорится что св. Зосима отправил всех злых зверей с острова. И правда, при таком изобилии лесных массивов- нет змей! Можно ходить часами по острову и усталь не приходит, а красота монастыря поражает своей северной величественностью. Это место должен посетить каждый,хотя бы раз в жизни. Но говорят, что кто там был, того всегда тянет на святую землю. Остановиться там можно на частном секторе, в паломнической службе могут предложить койку-место и прекрасный палаточный лагерь, тоже место для путешественников.
