it is lockated in walking distance from the Holy Transfiguration Monastery, built on the site of two wooden churches in 1647-1650 gg. Very beatiful Church decorated with five onion domes pale green.Once inside, you find yourself in a real treasury of ancient art of interior and exterior which worked best artists of his time. The paintings on the walls of the late XVII century, remained almost unchanged.

There are many beautiful and interesting sights to see in Yaroslavl, a very charming city along the Volga and its tributaries between Moscow and St. Petersburg. On the evidence of my all-too-short visit to this city, this church –– known in English as the Church of St. Elijah the Prophet –– is the most interesting and worthwhile to visit. Beautiful enough on the outside, the inside is truly spectacular, even by the standards of the many other beautiful Russian churches and cathedrals we have seen on our trip to Russia. The icons are quite old, dating from the mid-17th century, and almost miraculously preserved through the Communist revolutionary period and years of Soviet rule. Well worth a visit!

Hram illi proroka - it's Russian name of this church. Located in the center of the city, on the square, opposite side of regional office building. It was built on mid of 17th century. After Soviet revolution, almost of churches were destroyed and ruined. But this church was survived and could keep its condition, because it was used as an anti-religion museum. Fence installed, you can enter during their working hours.

As you approach the church from the outside, the exterior is nothing special, but once inside, the 17th century frescoes just get better and better the deeper you go into the church. The colour and clarity is breath-taking and the icon wall is equally impressive. There is a lot to take in, as the frescoes really are from floor to ceiling. I paid for a photo permit at the cash desk - a decision I'm sure you too will consider worth it once inside. This unassuming little church really is the gem of Yaroslavl.

This church is one of the lucky few to survive the Stalin era, with the original frescos beautifully intact. Not to be missed if in Yaroslavl.

Considered by many (including UNESCO) to be the outmost example of Russian architecture. It’s frescoes are literally priceless. Surprisingly, the church is unexpectedly small inside and a visitor is usually besieged by the people at the front desk demanding a fairly high entrance fee. The location of the church is almost as interesting as the site itself. This used to be power centre of the city with the old Communist Party HQ right across the square. The square formerly known as Soviet square was (and still is to a lesser degree) the place for military and workers parades and later on political rallies. In the old days the access to the area was restricted, and even now the vehicular traffic is heavily regulated.

At one time every street in Yaroslavl led to this church, and they say there was no place in the city where you couldn't see it. Still a wonderful landmark.

This a very quaint church in the town of Yaroslavl and was a part of our excursion for a day trip on the Viking River Cruise.

Built in 1647-50 by two local merchants, the church faces the main square of central Yaroslavl. Interiors were painted by a team of 15 people and show domestic life in the 19th century. If you are lucky, you will be treated to acapella singers who sang one religious and the Volga Boat Song for us. Absolutely not to be missed!

This church is worth a visit, it is in the old main square near the Volga. I have been here a number of times and it is just a really peaceful place to visit, costs about 70 rubles and if the weather is nice it's great just to sit on a bench outside.
