For 300UAH or about $15 you can get the best seat in the house to a ballet or an opera. The building is amazing, great architecture, beautiful chandeliers and marble it all feels very opulent. If you are traveling on a budget you can get cheaper tickets but its worth splashing out. The ballet i saw was good maybe 7/10 the leads were fantastic but the show lacked in some technical aspects. Still where else can you see a professional ballet or opera for $15. The Orchestra that played was amazing absolutely splendid. Ticket office is not sign posted as all, they are to the right and left of the main door. It's a tiny window inside, very easy to miss. Highly recommend this as an activity.

Take the time to see the ballet or opera while in the city. The outside is not so impressive, but the inside is spectacular. I am not an artsy individual and do not often see the ballet or an opera. But even for a sports guy like me, the inside was spectacular and the performances were amazing. I was very impressed with how athletic the ballet performers were. I have seen Swan Lake and the Nutcracker here. I would recommend both if you get the opportunity! Very Inexpensive as well as Entertaining!

I think seeing a performance at the National Opera House during a visit is a must. The building itself is not particularly interesting, in comparison to the Odessa Opera House, and the inside is still not renewed. But the opera and ballet performances are great and many people perhaps do not know of the quality of the performances there. There are a great variety of operas and ballets during the fall and winter season and you can probably find something worth seeing during your visit. I particularly enjoy the ballets, Giselle and Swan Lake. A particularly good Ukrainian ballet is Taras Bulba. The prices for performances are much more expensive the past few years, but still good value for money. If you are interested in Russian/Ukrainian history, it was in this opera house that Stolypin was assassinated and then buried at the Lavra Monastery Cathedral which you can see. Stolypin was interesting character in Russian history, both good and bad. He was prime minister under the Czar Nicholas II and there is still mystery surrounding his death.

Tried to by e-tickets but the e-ticket system was out of order. After some e-mails the friendly staff at the box office booked the ticket and hold it for me until right before the play. Even if Carmen is´t my favorite opera the evening was very pleasant and the performance top notch.
