Gorky Park is the peaceful heart of this little city--the primary place where friends and family meet to socialize, play games or sports, take a walk through the trees, or just relax and snack on cheburecki, beer, and sunflower seeds. The park is very centrally located, with main entrances both on Kirova St. and Khmelnitsky Ave. At the north, Kirova St. entrance, there is an impressive bust of the author Maksim Gorky, and there is a moving war memorial nearby, but most of the park is decorated in a more light-hearted and child-focused manner.The park has a variety of attractions for all ages. There are sports fields, basketball courts, and running tracks and well as a few amusement park style rides for children and adults. Separate, stand alone buildings have table tennis and a shooting gallery, and there is a wide variety of small and larger stalls that sell cheap children's toys, drinks, snacks, and small meals. There is also a separately gated children's park where, for a small fee, you can walk around statues of fairy tale and Soviet cartoon characters. Unfortunately, while there are new public bathrooms being built, they are not always open, and the main public toilets leave much to be desired.
