Old monumnet in the style of the antique classic, famous for everyone visiting the city. Still has few buller holes from the WW2 times. Great place to make pictures of the port and bay, in the middle of Primorksy boulevard

Located at the top of the Potemkin Stairs, my only complaint is the inscriptions are not duplicated in English (I know...I am not in the U.S.). Still, I wish I read Russian so that I could enjoy more of what the plaque said.Nicely made statue.

The monument itself is just average, but the area in which it is located, is a unique place. If you want to see how playing with the flower of the nation's youth - you get a chance.

I can compare this very famous monument to the statue to Christopher Columbus in Spain. Duke Armand Emmanuel Richelieu during his visit to Russia in 1795 was given a ranking in the Cuirassiers of St. George as lieutenant colonel. Famous ( we all like the Alexandr Dumas novels) Cardinal Richelieu under Louis XIII was his great-grandfatherOdessa at that time was a just a village.Soon Richelieu was appointed as the first governor of Odessa which allowed him to start transforming the village. This gave him the opportunity to turn the village into something he had always dreamed of: agricultural and commercial town . Duke Richelieu also realized the importance in creating good port facilities so as to establish the growing city of Odessa as a popular port for trade. This in turn transformed the village of the Black Sea into the gracious city it is today.

It is one of the main meeting point in Odessa for some tours and it is near the Potemkin Steps. It is of one of the Governors of Odessa. Nothing very remarkable about the statue but he played an important role in the development of Odessa. Some interesting buildings though nearby.

A statue at the top of the Potemkin stairs dedicated to one of the governors of Odessa. He was very popular with the people. It was under his governance that the city became a major trade port.

Duke of Richelieu is not the most famous of the history, but it lived in time of Odessa, and he was Governor for one period. Architecture of ancient part of Odessa was designed by Italians and French, and the central part of the city is so different from other cities of Ukraina. The statue of Governor Richelieu is over Potemkin stairs, in one beautiful place to walk, to seat down, to see the sea(area of the port), and neat there is the most famous Londonskaya Hotel, where arrived important people of History, Literature and Politics.

This is the most famous monument in Odessa. If you are walking around ask one of the locals to point you to a famous manhole near the monument.

Great starting point for a walking tour of Odessa, found at the top of the Potemkin steps. Watch for tourist trappers...the day we were there they had guys with eagles selling photo ops.
