Being a great admirer of Russian marine painter Ivan Ayvazovsky (XIX century) I was uncommonly happy to see his paintings in Odessa Art Museum. Two of them are dedicated to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and his visits to Crimea. It should be noted that the paintings of Ayvazovsky are displayed as a part of permanent expositions of museums all over the world – Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, USA etc. His painting “View of Constantinople and the Bosphorus” was sold for £3.2 million at Sotheby’s in London in 2012.

Like most of Ukraine, this building is in serious disrepair. However, I find it amazing how clean they do keep it. Just like the rest of the city...bad streets, bad sidewalks but immaculately clean. It shows that they take pride in the city evenif they do not have funds to repair it.The exhibit was good. I am not an art expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I enjoyed what was there. There was a good variety of old and modern art, painting, statues, others items. They have some antique religious icons that were fascinating. Bring someone that speaks Russian. The kind old ladies that sell tickets to get in do not speak English. You will need to get multiple tickets for each separate exhibit, but it is very very cheap according to American standards.

the art museum has mostly Russian rip-offs of european-style paintings. nothing much to see and displayed with factory-like fluorescent lighting. i would rather have skipped this stop.

I love this museum because it consists one of the biggest and perfect collection of painting 19 and 20th centuries .I do not like how our Ministry of Culture takes a care about it:in the winter -too cold(plus ten inside) in the summer too hot( no air condition)!

We enjoyed our visit to this excellent art gallery. It was extremely hot and there was no air conditioning but we still stayed for a couple of hours and very much enjoyed the paintings. Plenty we did not get round to but that can wait till our next visit to Odessa which will probably be in cooler weather.

I'm not a great one for art museums but the Museam of fine art is exceptional. It's also in need of repair . The range of art available to see is stunning. I could have stayed there much longer than I had the time for. Don't use the WC's unless truely desperate!
