Decent place with a wide range of display covering much of Nikolaev history. Worth a 45 mns run. Don t expect an international level museum, but good regional.

Good with an English tour guide which helped a lot. The staff are friendly. Able to take photos for a small fee. It is easy to find and I was lucky that it is with in easy walking distance from my hotel.

Just a 10 minute walk from the Sovetskaya street, the "Old Fleet Barracks" (as Mykolayiv Regional Museum of Local History is also called) is the place to be to get acquainted with the history of the city and the area around it. The museum has recently moved to this spacious, newly restored building, where local history is presented in several thematic rooms. The presentation of the South-Ukrainian geology, flora and fauna is followed by successive historical periods, such as the Ancient Greek colonization, early Slavic settlements, the Middle Ages and the Cossack era, the founding of the city of Mykolayiv as a shipbuilding wharf in the late 18th century and its further development in the 19th century, as well as the turbulent events of the 20th century (WWI, early Soviet era and collectivization, WWII, late Soviet era and young independence). Each period is illustrated by historical objects and archeological artifacts, as well as by art objects of the period and by reconstructions and recreations of daily life scenes on several stands. My personal favourite was the room dedicated to the multi-ethnic background of the city, with costumes and daily life objects of the main ethnic groups in the region (Ukrainians, Russians, Germans, Jews, Ploles,...) on display. Try to take along someone who speaks Russian (if you don't yourself) to translate the basic info for you, as there are no signs or explanations in English, but even without this extra info the actual historical objects are fascinating to see in real life and the exhibitions are pretty colourful and visually attractive (one feels that the museum staff has put a lot of effort to bring history to life and to make their museum appealing). A definite recommendation to everyone ;)

Музей хороший,очень понравилось! Единственное хочу обратить Ваше внимание на небольшие недостатки которые думаю не сложно устранить. Первое это запах, развесьте какие нибудь освежители воздуха,второе-стоит заменить чучела птиц и некоторых животных.С большенством из них я знаком с детсва,а мне уже50,выглядят удручающе. Третье-неочень приятно когда находишся под черезмерным наблюдением и ощущать на себе недовольные и заценяющие взгляды сотрудников музея. А вобщем всё понравилось по возможности посетим ещё!

Обычно люди редко ходят в музеи в своем городе. Только в школе на экскурсию. Был в Николаеве краеведческий музей из 2 комнат с чучелом неандертальца. В новый попали случайно, с компанией друзей, взяли экскурсовода. Действительно было очень интересно, очень много экспонатов, реально за одно посещение все подробно не изучить. Планирую обязательно сходить еще раз.

Море впечатления на трех этажах, для Николаева это просто находка.Кто родом с области, здесь найдет что то родное и знакомое. Всем рекомендую.

Через время станет одним из лучших музеев облсати и, возможно, страны. Огромные площади требуют выноса экспозиции на обозрение из хранилищ.
